The Role
Ontario Plants Propagation Ltd. is seeking a dedicated Production Planning Supervisor to join our team in overseeing the coordination and preparation of daily work schedules, as well as supervising the greenhouse workforce. Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the operations team performs at optimal levels productively, efficiently, and safely. This role will also provide the necessary tools and resources to innovate, inform, and motivate the team while building confidence and trust through ongoing coaching, training, and progressive counseling.
/ Responsibilities
Oversee the coordination and preparation of daily labour schedules
Monitor the performance of Workforce Planning Assistants, Supervisors, Team Leads, and Labourers
Maintain an up-to-date working knowledge of tasks and responsibilities for all subordinate staff
Enforce a safe, clean, and legally compliant workplace
Execute established methods to meet work schedules and coordinate work activities with other departments
Resolve work problems and recommend measures to improve productivity and product quality
Provide information for production plans to ensure production objectives are met
Enforce and monitor compliance with company policies and procedures
Requisition materials and supplies as needed
Ensure production quality at all levels
Set clear expectations for the operations team and ensure they are followed
Lead and participate in quality and productivity improvement initiatives
Communicate regularly with the Operations Manager and cross-functional teams to report progress, issues, and opportunities for improvement
Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to develop team and individual employee skills
Conduct performance evaluations of subordinate staff and provide ongoing feedback
Hold daily huddle meetings with the workforce planning team and supervisors to ensure proper direction and alignment of work schedules
Participate in daily walkabouts with the greenhouse team to monitor workflow and safety compliance
Continually promote health and safety awareness through instruction, training, and supervision
Conduct occupational health and safety inspections to identify and control hazards
Lead and participate in problem-solving initiatives related to workforce performance, quality, and productivity
Approved vacations and time-off requests based on production forecasts
Plan and deliver morning supervisor and team-lead meetings
Interview and assist in the selection of potential supervisors and team leaders
Minimum Requirements
3-5 years of experience as a Workforce Planner or similar role
Experience in the greenhouse or horticulture industry is an asset
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to create logically ordered objectives
Strong leadership and team management skills, including coaching, mentoring, and motivating employees
Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization
Well-developed problem-solving and decision-making skills
High degree of flexibility, adaptability, and resourcefulness
Ability to plan, organize, implement, and interpret programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures
Excellent time management skills
Proven ability to motivate employees and achieve positive results from teams
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel
Superior interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment
Knowledge of workplace compliance, safety regulations, and industry best practices
Physical Location / Working Conditions
Work location is in a rural area with limited access to public transportation candidates should have reliable means of transportation
35 - 55 hours per week, shifts may vary between day and evening
Ability to work long hours and weekends when required, especially during peak seasons
Working in high temperatures
