Heidelberg Materials is seeking a Production Manager to join our team. Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Production Manager is responsible for all aspects of production at the Edmonton Cement Plant.

What you\'ll get to do:

  • Plan, control and direct plant production, shipping and yard operations. Schedule personnel and workload. Maintain necessary work force to operate the plant in the most efficient manner.
  • Establish critical operating parameters and procedures. Promote continuity and uniformity of desirable operating concepts and practices within the production and shipping crews.
  • Responsible for the production of cement meeting industry and Company specifications and standards.
  • Responsible for sign off on all process control logic additions or changes related to the operating equipment of the plant.
  • Responsible for maintenance of refractory including planning, selection and requisitioning of material, installation, selection and supervision of refractory contractors.
  • Coordinate production with maintenance to minimize equipment stops, equipment downtime and maintenance costs.
  • Order raw materials and fuels to maintain required inventory levels.
  • Liaise with Plant Administrator and Payroll SSC to maintain correct timekeeping for hourly employees.
  • Actively support and play a leadership role in the plant\'s safety program and ensure compliance with Company and plant safety and environmental policies, legislation and regulations.
  • Ensure that Company policies regarding purchasing, work order planning and contractor management are adhered to.
  • Prepare operating Plan for the production, shipping and yard cost centres.
  • Effectively manage budgets and costs.
  • Provide input to the plant capital plan.
  • Administer and ensure compliance with plant policies and the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Participate in plant labour relations.
  • Prepare reports as required by plant, Regional and Corporate management.
  • Motivate, support, and coach direct reports in their career development and encourage the mentoring training and development of all employees.
  • On-call as required including participation in the weekend coverage rotation.
  • Identify and implement production and process improvement projects
Who we are looking for:
  • A college or university degree in engineering or other appropriate discipline with a minimum of 5 years of cement plant experience or
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in cement plant operations at the supervisory level or higher.
  • A high level of knowledge related to all aspects of cement manufacturing. Working knowledge of chemistry of raw mix, clinker and cement.
  • Familiar with Central Control operations with hands-on operating experience an asset.
  • Supervisory and leadership competencies acquired in a unionized plant.
  • Demonstrated experience in refractory evaluation, selection and installation.
  • Experience in dealing with labour relations matters and administering collective bargaining agreements.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and decision making skills.
  • Ability to make timely, critical decisions, often under conditions of uncertainty and stress.
  • Oral and written communication skills as well as presentation skills.
  • Able to prepare budgets and forecasts, and to focus on and manage costs.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and motivational skills. A team leader and player.
  • Able to effectively use MS Office, SAP, KRONOS and other applicable software applications
  • Knowledge of local and Company safety regulations and guidelines.
Work Environment:
  • This role involves conducting business at manufacturing locations and job sites where the conditions include moving mechanical equipment, inclement weather, heat, humidity, and elevated noise levels
