Who we are looking for
: The Production Designer works on turning design concepts into precise, production-ready documentation for the millwork departments. This role acts as the bridge between designers' intentions, the shop fabrication team and field installation crew, ensuring every drawing, cut list, and assembly detail is clear, manufacturable and drawn in a way that aligns shop capabilities with design intent. Beyond cabinetry, the position supports stair projects, custom doors, and detailed finish carpentry components.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare detailed shop drawings for cabinetry, stairs, doors and millwork components using Cabinet Vision and AutoCAD
Model, annotate and program complex assemblies within Autodesk Fusion as needed
Review conceptual designs for accuracy, feasibility and ease of construction - making proactive recommendations to improve efficiency and buildability while preserving the design concept as a whole
Produce complete production documentation packages including assembly sheets, cut lists and component details
Coordinate closely with project managers to confirm project scope and details before release to fabrication
Work closely with design lead to clarify design intent and ensure seamless communication client(s) and production team
Follow company drafting standards, naming conventions and revision controls to maintain documentation consistency
Play a key role in design reviews and assist in resolving field or fabrication issues through revised drawings or technical clarifications
Actively contribute to digital workflow improvements
Qualifications and Skills
Proficiency in Cabinet Vision and AutoCAD; experience with Fusion 360 preferred.
Post secondary education in architecture, industrial design or cabinet making fields preferred
Strong technical understanding of cabinet construction, joinery methods, and architectural detailing.
Ability to interpret architectural drawings and convert them into accurate production-ready designs
Strong spatial awareness and visualization skills for 3D assemblies
Attention to detail and ability to solve complex design challenges
Effectively manage time, able and willing to work diligently and efficiently - able to self-manage time and tasks, complete work quickly, but accurately to meet deadline
Desire to continuously learn and grow - willing to try new techniques and building methods and help refine design processes

Reliable transportation to get to work daily
3-6 Month Trajectory - Junior Designer
Working-knowledge of Boreal Millwork construction standards and best practices as demonstrated by the ability to add detail annotations to drawing sets independently
Good working knowledge of architectural drawing best practices including Boreal Millwork drawing standards
Able to read and interpret architectural drawings to determine all specifications / schedules. Able to flag parts of design that do not lend themselves well to fabrication and assist in troubleshooting IFC designs.
Good understanding of materials properties including strengths, weaknesses and applications of all common materials used in cabinetry
Able to verify assembly properties in cabinet vision including material schedule, door style & material, hardware, reveals as well as identify issues in construction
Handle woodland shop drawings independently. The details of this workflow will need to be worked out as the work progresses
Able to forecast personal workload and communicate upcoming spikes or drops in demand
2-5 Year Trajectory - Lead Production Designer
Excellent understanding of woodwork construction standards and best practices as demonstrated by the ability to design custom assemblies with great detail.
Able to read and interpret architectural drawings for the purpose of designing millwork. High functioning ability as demonstrated by the ability to identify and provide solutions for unresolved details.
Excellent understanding of materials properties including strengths, weaknesses and applications of all common materials used in cabinetry
Able to check and modify assembly properties in cabinet vision including material schedule, door style & material, hardware, reveals in order to prep for production release
Handle custom woodland designs and drawings independently. The details of this workflow will need to be worked out as the work progresses
Model room layouts from site dimensions
5+ Year Trajectory - Senior Millwork Engineer
High functioning in all previously noted areas
Able to write and modify UCS
Able to write and modify assembly methods
Able to write, modify and update material database and schedules
Take site dimensions
Strong ability to conceptualize and design custom assemblies that fall outside standard construction practices in a way that is easily fabricated on the shop floor
