Scope of the Position

The Production Coordinator is responsible for the management of daily production in conjunction with the operations team to ensure that all customer and operational needs are met.

What You Need to be Successful

  • Technical and Plant Operations background in the chemical industry preferably with a mechanical or chemical technology diploma.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in rail traffic operations, with a working knowledge of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Strong technical writing skills.
  • Committed to continuous improvement of safety, environment, customer service, operations and quality performance
  • Knowledgeable and effective in the use of standard computer software programs and database systems. Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite and extensive experience with Excel.
Key Responsibilities

Managing Rail Fleet and Logistics:
  • Schedules all rail movements to, from and shunting on the plant site in a cost effective manner, and maintains all communications with rail crews and CN Rail to ensure the correct rail movements.
  • Tracks and manages rail car fleet to ensure customer and plant raw material requirements are maintained with an optimum sized fleet. Periodically evaluates fleet requirements in conjunction with the Transportation team to ensure costs are optimized without compromise to reliability.
  • Reviews and approves transportation invoices to ensure billing is accurate and all corresponding paperwork is consistent with TDG and Responsible Care requirements.
  • Coordinates and manages rail fleet requirements with regard to fleet maintenance and repair.
  • Manages the plant rail yard with regard to continuous and preventative maintenance in conjunction with the onsite maintenance team as well as specialized rail maintenance contractors.
Production & Operations:
  • Maintains and generates production, inventory and sales forecasts, to ensure appropriate allocation of product and, determination of production requirements.
  • Provides support to the Operations Manager, and Sales Team by making production recommendations based on production and sales forecasts and electricity cost optimization.
  • Ensures adequate Sodium Chlorate and Crude Tall Oil inventories are maintained to support all customer operations.
  • Prepares weekly production reports, month end shipment, inventory and electricity consumption reports, and Chlorte inventory and logistics reports
  • Communicates daily with shift Operators to plan and relay daily planned production and product loading / off loading.
Customer Service & Product Quality:
  • Ensures accurate paperwork is maintained under lock and key, including bills of lading, loading reports, certificates of analysis, and railway billing.
  • Ensures new customers have been formally approved with respect to all company requirements prior to the scheduling of any shipments (Responsible Care assessments and site inspections, Explosives Act assessments, Transportation Emergency Response Coverage etc.).
  • Maintains up-to-date sales forecasts, and develops production and sales schedules.
Operations Manpower Scheduling:
  • Schedules Operator time off (i.e. vacation, floaters, ADOs, statutory holidays etc.) in accordance with the Labour Agreement and written company policies and procedures.
  • Maintains records with regard to all scheduling operations (i.e. pending time off request, past schedules, employee call in logs etc.).
  • Generates, distributes, and maintains the hourly time off schedule for plant operators.
