The incumbent oversees production planning, estimating, materials management, and production control within the Shop. This position will oversee staff, focusing on employee safety, performance, development, and ensuring operational efficiency and effectiveness.What You Will Do

  • Ensures effective production planning, estimating, procedure analysis and production control for the shop.
  • Develop and organize materials or procedures (i.e., technical manuals, supplier information).
  • Liaise with other colleagues, support staff, other departments, and potentially external customers or stakeholders concerning routine matters related to the work assigned.
  • Verify the accuracy, quality, reliability, functionality, system requirements, and/or specifications are met in a given process, document, piece of equipment, system, or work method.
  • Review data for discrepancies, errors, trends, or potential cost savings, report and provide suggested solutions as necessary. Evaluate the impact and implications of findings.
  • Provide technical expertise, guidance, assistance and recommendations for the area of responsibility as needed.
  • Create, track and publish key performance indicator packages based on departmental goals & objectives.
  • Complete tasks in relation to managing people, including administrative duties along with approving/authorizing requests ensuring they are within established standards, related policies and compliance regulations.

What Qualifications Do You Bring
  • Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
  • Sound knowledge of production planning, scheduling, inventory management principles, practices and techniques
  • Familiar with production scheduling systems, including shop floor control, master scheduling, and bill of materials
  • Good knowledge of vehicle (streetcar and bus) maintenance operations including sequences/practices, components and shop equipment
  • Have strong personal computer and mainframe skills that include the use of spread-sheet, database and word processing software (Excel, Access, Word etc.)
  • Familiarity with budgetary principles and the ability to prepare report key performance indicator reports, analyses and recommendations regarding work operations
  • Must have the ability to supervise, motivate and train staff as well as co-ordinate the efforts of others to accomplish objectives
  • Must have or rapidly acquire overall knowledge of the shop\'s functions, organizational structure, etc. including the TTC\'s and department\'s policies and procedures applicable to the work performed
  • Required to become proficient in the use of the TTC\'s systems relating to the work (i.e. Vehicle Maintenance System (VMS), Streetcar/Subway Maintenance System (SMS), Information Financial Systems (IFS), Shops Work Order System and the Production and Inventory Control System (PICS)
  • Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees
