The ideal candidate is someone who is extremely detail oriented and who is committed to delivering excellent results every step of the way. They are a person who enjoys having very varied tasks and who is excited by growing their skill set to include everything from sewing basic seams and zippers to cutting and sewing fur products ranging from pompoms for toques and keychains to tiny hand stitched jewelry pieces and fine beadwork. They don\'t mind repetitive tasks such as production of (often hundreds of) jewelry pieces for the duration of an entire work day to printing fabrics, packaging items, inputting inventory, labelling, and packaging. This position is for someone who will work both with us in the production space in our home as well as on their own at their home (if they wish). Tasks will likely be different every day and the more skills the ideal candidate brings with them, the more interesting the job will be.
Additionally, the ideal candidate has a personal commitment to learn as much as they can about Indigenous culture and about reconciliation in Canada and their individual role in that effort. This is a long-term position that will be production-driven (not hourly). On the job training will be provided. Only those being considered will be contacted. Compensation for production is on a piecework basis. Other tasks will be paid hourly. The more of the skills you bring that shorten the training period, the more your wage will be positively affected. Samples of your work will be required as part of your interview.
As this is a workshop position, there is no dress code. Comfort and safety are our first priority.
