What you can expect in a typical day
If you love the excitement of staying up-to-the-minute with market news and data from around the world, this could be the role for you! We are currently looking for a Product Trader to join our Product and Compliance Trading Team in Saint John, NB. With a primary focus on refined product sales and purchases within North America, you will identify, communicate, and explore value-add opportunities for the company by analyzing and interpreting global market news and data.

Your Roles and Responsibilities:
Perform both spot and term trading within our North American businesses.
Drive value organizationally by trading around our refineries production length and shortfalls to maximize earnings and ensure supply chain reliability.
Articulate complex concepts to stakeholders in support of trading strategies and recommendations.
Develop and monitor new relationships with customers and suppliers through a solid understanding of the value of long-term customers; provide exceptional customer service practices.
Build and maintain strong customer relationships through both in person and virtual contacts, phone, MS Teams, emails, etc.
Develop and execute negotiation strategies.
Ensure compliance with applicable internal policies and regulatory standards with respect to trading.
Perform other duties as required to maintain and enhance departmental productivity.
Able to work extended hours occasionally during times of critical operational challenges.
Professional skills
Understanding of operations and commodity risk management principles.
Strong analytical skills and able to solve problems.
Negotiation and contract experience.
Awareness of basic legal and regulatory principles as it relates to trading and Irving Oil proprietary business.
Working knowledge of the supply chain and its components.
Able to work and make progress in a sometimes ambiguous environment.
Team player with strong communication, decision making, and collaboration skills
Proven ability to build strong relationships, both internal and external.
Thrive on working in a high pressure environment with tight deadlines.
Strong presentation skills
Travel
Travel up to 15% of your time is required in this position (adhering to all restrictions and protocols due to Covid; employee safety comes first).
Education and experience
Post-secondary education in business or related experience.
Previous work experience with Supply Planning and / or Trading teams.
1-2 years of experience in the trading industry is a definite asset.
Commercial experience is an asset.
Experience in oil and products markets analysis is an asset.
