Job Description

Who we are

Emphasys is the largest full-service provider serving the public housing, housing finance, and redevelopment marketplace. Across our five divisions, we provide software and solutions that modernize financial, treasury and debt management, compliance tracking, affordable housing location, and loan portfolio management for Public Housing and Affordable Housing markets in every state. Through our products and services, we help house roughly half of the neediest families in the country.

We have decades of leadership in this market, and we are growing. We are looking for genuine contributors with integrity, energy, flexibility, and loyalty.

Who we need

Reporting to the General Manager, HFA Division and collaborating across teams, we are looking for a Product Manager. You will take ownership of our biggest product line, the Single Family Line of Products for Mortgage Loans and use your product management experience and strong technical skills to define, prioritize, translate and oversee new features and enhancements. You will work closely with the Development team on system design, business analysis, and deployment of new functionality; collaborate with clients to create Statement of Work for new features or products; and contribute to Business Development during the RFP, demo, and contract negotiation process.

What's in it for you

Influence and impact. Our software helps over 50% of the largest public housing authorities in the US manage their processes and funds to provide low-income housing and down payment assistance to those in need. This is a chance to apply your expertise in relationship building and product management to make an impact on customers supporting millions of Americans seeking affordable housing.

Career development. You want to take on a highly-visible and influential role at a company with a purpose. You will work in partnership with the GM on the roadmap and product vision of a complex system with multiple modules. You will have the autonomy to direct your work, own the product deliverables, and influence customers and internal teams. You will be in a position to grow into a Director role or move into a different business unit within our parent companies - Aquila or Constellation Software.

Security. As we enter economic uncertainty, we know it can be hard to consider a career move, but at Emphasys and Aquila, we want you to know that we are stable with expert leaders at the helm, and we commit to the people who join us.

What you will focus on:

  • Product delivery. You will ensure the delivery plan is in place, the backlog issues are prioritized, and all fixes are cued up. You will act as the escalation point for any issues affecting the scope, delivery, or release date. You will work cross-functionally, playing a critical role in consulting with customers, sharing deliverables with Development, and running demonstrations for Sales.
  • Product strategy. You will work closely with the General Manager on the future of the product, planning the roadmap and aligning with the long-term vision. You will set measurable product goals to ensure it meets technology, security, and industry regulations and compliance standards. You will participate in discussions at the decision-making level around the problems we want to solve with our product. You will be part of design projects, exploring the feasibility of proposed features, conducting market research, and client interviews. You will be the customers' advocate to incorporate intuitiveness, ease-of-use and accessibility into the user interaction and user experience of our product.
  • Grow your network. You will attend industry and user conferences, promoting our product through demonstrations and presentations. You will nurture relationships with clients, prospects, industry peers, and internal teams. You will work with Marketing and Sales to promote systems and highlight new functionalities; with Client Services to ensure the satisfaction of all client requests, and with the cross-functional implementation project teams to ensure that all implementation deliverables are met.
What you bring:
  • Experience. You have 5+ years as a Product Manager or Product Owner with proven success delivering multiple B2B products. You are innovative, solution-oriented, and entrepreneurial with exposure to one or more of the loans, mortgages, or real estate industries. You have experience working closely with customers to gain insights into their processes and practical needs, eliciting requirements for new features and writing technical specifications to guide the work of a software engineering team. You have proven expertise:
  • Balancing multiple concurrent projects and completing deliverables on time.
  • Planning and designing end-to-end feature development.
  • Taking a high-level concept and breaking it down, identifying deliverables, tools, and resources.
  • Managing and executing the roadmap to optimize solutions.
  • Leadership skills. You can gain trust and respect, nurturing collaborative relationships to influence the work of a Development team. You can offer guidance and advice based on broad and deep knowledge of various techniques, tools, and methodologies. You believe in keeping up to date with, and implementing, best practices.
  • Technical knowledge. You have worked on designing products and have the technical understanding of browser-based systems, architecture, and SQL to have intelligent conversations on design, infrastructure, files, screens, menus, and feasibility of feature requests.
  • Ownership. You work with a sense of urgency and hold yourself accountable for exceeding expectations and meeting deadlines. You understand how to prioritize competing high-priority requests, navigate the unknown, and confidently represent the team at internal and external meetings. You continuously seek new information and learning opportunities, staying at the forefront of best practices in the industry.
  • Interpersonal skills. You have flexible and effective communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to a non-technical audience. You can confidently make presentations to any level of stakeholder. You have a deep appreciation for diverse opinions and approaches.
