Role & Responsibilities

Alchemy is expanding its automotive products portfolio to better support its existing channel, enter new market and channel segments, and introduce new products through strategic partnerships with new suppliers.

We are looking for a Product Engineer to support our product development initiatives through testing, sourcing, evaluating, and documentation activities. This role will situate between our Product and Engineering teams - your priorities and deliverables will be driven by our Product team while your day-to-day activities & resourcing will be supported by our Engineering team. This structure will give you a chance to make valuable contributions to our product development, supplier selection, and commercialization objectives while developing your technical and business skills for a career in product management, supplier/purchasing management, and/or product engineering streams.

Your responsibilities will include four major activities: * Testing
  • Developing and executing tests to evaluate existing and new products
  • Developing methodologies to reproduce product issues reported by customers for the R&D team to further diagnose & resolve
  • Sourcing
  • Sourcing and screening suppliers of new products based on technical information, business terms, and operational compatibility with our strategy
  • Collaborating with prospective suppliers to develop new products, developing new processes, and enhancing existing processes & products
  • Evaluating
  • Evaluating supplier samples & prototypes for planned products to derive critical insights and inform supplier selection
  • Contributing to our overall product strategy by performing business case analysis on suppliers, product categories, and product design
  • Documentation
  • Communicating results to the product team with technical and business oriented reports
  • Curating technical product documents to ensure market facing teams have access to the most up-to-date and accurate
You will report directly to our Chief Executive Officer and Head of R&D.

Requirements

Our product development team is striving to leverage rapid iteration cycles in order to meet ambitious delivery deadlines. You will be expected to move fast, which will often require using your technical expertise & judgment to find effective ways to accelerate project timelines without sacrificing quality.

In order to succeed in this role, you should have relevant experience in the following areas:
  • Polymer chemistry
  • Analytical chemistry
  • Test design
  • Data analysis
  • Documentation & reporting
We strongly prefer that you have prior experience in relevant fields, but are willing to overlook any lack of experience for a relentless, hungry, and talented candidate:
  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or Materials Engineering or other relevant degree from an Ontario university. Current students in their final year of education with an April graduation date are welcome to apply!
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience either through co-op terms or post-graduate employment
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills (written & oral)
  • Proactive and self-starter attitude with a focus on continuously finding new ways to increase your productivity
  • Proven ability to work independently and manage priorities/time under a dynamic high pressure environment
  • Resilience and conviction necessary to succeed in a rapidly changing environment with frequent shortage of time, resources, and data
  • Ready to put the team first and be willing to contribute in whatever manner possible
