The Product Engineer is responsible for building, standardizing, and continuously improving drafting and engineering processes that support scalable product development and manufacturing efficiency. This role bridges design, drafting, production, and quality, ensuring accurate technical documentation, controlled engineering changes, and disciplined process execution across PermaCorp's product lines.
This is a hands-on engineering role with strong ownership over drawings, BOMs, change management, and cross-functional execution, rather than purely conceptual design.
Key Responsibilities
1. Drafting & Design Execution
Develop, maintain, and standardize technical drawings, models, and assemblies using SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD
Create and manage 2D and 3D drawings to support fabrication, installation, and manufacturing requirements
Establish drafting best practices, templates, and naming conventions to improve consistency and efficiency
Ensure drawings are manufacturing-ready, accurately dimensioned, and aligned with production capabilities
2. Engineering Process Development & Improvement
Design and implement repeatable drafting and engineering workflows
Identify inefficiencies, gaps, or risks in current engineering and drafting processes
Lead process improvement initiatives focused on cycle time reduction, error reduction, and scalability
Support transition from ad-hoc drafting to structured, documented engineering standards
3. Cross-Functional Project Coordination
Execute product design, research, and prototyping initiatives in collaboration with:
Production & Manufacturing
Quality (QA/QC)
Procurement & Supply Chain
Project Management
Coordinate multi-departmental development projects from concept through production release
Act as a technical liaison between engineering and downstream stakeholders
4. Tooling, Equipment & Manufacturing Support
Support tooling, equipment, and process development to enable efficient manufacturing
Provide technical input to production challenges and design-for-manufacturability initiatives
Support continuous improvement efforts related to shop-floor execution
5. Quality, Testing & Root Cause Analysis
Work closely with QA/QC teams to:
Investigate non-conformances
Conduct root cause analysis
Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
Support testing activities and performance validation
Engage with certifying bodies, testing partners, and third-party agencies as required
6. Document Control & Change Management
Maintain disciplined document control for:
Drawings and models
Bills of Materials (BOMs)
Performance and test data
Process and execute Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)
Ensure version control, traceability, and proper approvals are followed
Support audits and internal reviews related to engineering documentation
Qualifications & Experience
Required
Diploma or Degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or related field
3-7+ years of experience in a product engineering or manufacturing-focused environment
Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD
Experience working with BOMs, drawings, and engineering change processes
Demonstrated ability to drive process improvement in an engineering or drafting function
Preferred
Experience in manufacturing, fabrication, or construction-adjacent industries
Exposure to ISO, CSA, UL, or other certification frameworks
Experience supporting QA/QC or structured quality systems
Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and document management tools
Comfortable operating in a growing, evolving organization
