Where does the Product Development Engineer fit in? The Product Development Engineer will provide engineering support to internal and external teams with respect to new business opportunities and engineered solutions. The individual will take the lead role for researching and understanding new product technologies and manufacturing techniques, and applying them to business opportunities. Product Development Engineer will be responsible for determining the best engineering approach to new business and will provide engineering input on all initial feasibilities. The Engineer will work closely with the Sales team and customers to understand their applications and needs and work collaboratively or independently, to develop an approach to meet those needs. The Engineer will be responsible to develop, and present technical information both internally and to customers. Responsibilities that make work exciting: Benchmarks existing parts and processesResearch new technologies, materials, and processes to understand their benefits, limitations, and required investmentComplete and present business plans and ROI calculations to managementIdentify, develop and suggest improvements for margin and or function of parts and assemblies both new and existingInteract with customers and suppliers to identify needs and provide solutionsReview customer source packages to determine functional, quality, and system requirements. Disseminate information to the appropriate teams and gather feedback accordingly. Record, track and resolve any open issues.Ensure planned approach meets both customer requirements and internal targetsPrepare supplier RFQs (Request for Quote) based on internal and customer requirementsDevelop and present technical information and solutions to internal, as well as customer teams. Justify cost and approach as required.Coordinate and collaborate with internal teams (Cost estimation & Sales teams) as required to determine best practice approachSupport sales meetings and all tech reviewsProvide engineering input for DFM, EMP, QP and initial feasibilitiesReview part and assembly GD&T. Identify issues and work with customers to resolvePlan and manage trials of new technologies and processesProvide customers with technical and engineering support during new part developmentEnsures compliance to IATF-16949 systems and procedures Qualifications that make you the perfect fit: Post-secondary degree in Engineering or related fieldMinimum 5 to 10 years experience in engineering, program/project management (within the automotive industry)Impeccable oral and written communication & presentation skills, with the ability to interface with senior managementStrong relationship building skills (internal & external stakeholders)Customer advocate- able to effectively communicate client needs to the organization simultaneously balancing organizational requirementsProactive view to identifying & driving financial benefits for our clientsProven successful launches of previous programs (on time & on budget)Ability to think & execute strategically and is results orientedSelf-motivated individual with a strong attention to detailDevelop long-term strategies for key accounts that align with corporate mandateProficient with MS ProjectExcellent organizational skills with the ability to multi task as requiredExperience in injection molding, manufacturing or related field is requiredExperience as a Tier 1 Automotive supplier is an assetCost analysis / quoting experience is an asset Join our passionate and energetic team, where innovation and collaboration are at the core of everything we do.
