About Harvest Systems


Harvest Systems' technology harvests and recycles waste heat to reduce operating costs and greenhouse gas emissions in a cost-effective and scalable way. Currently, the company is focused on the $4.6 billion restaurant industry, where the platform acts as a drop-in replacement for traditional water heaters. Using a novel heat reclaimer, waste heat is captured directly from commercial cooking appliances and stored in a hot water tank without affecting safety and performance and resulting in an average 2-year payback. Harvest Systems is a fast-moving startup focused on disrupting the restaurant industry and is actively looking to expand its team with driven team members.

Job Overview


The McMaster Internship position will assist the Harvest team with product development and pilot testing of a novel heat reclaiming platform designed for the food service industry. This position will support the installation of our product into one or more restaurant locations to conduct proof of concept testing. Once installed, continuous analysis will be conducted on the unit to determine the effectiveness of the product. The role requires excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to clearly communicate with suppliers, fabrication partners, and customers. This includes optimizing production and tasks related to maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair. The successful candidate will aid in ensuring the successful implementation and analysis associated with these pilot tests. This position will report to the product development lead.

What You'll Do:



Design and build custom test equipment to perform in lab testing of prototype assemblies Aid in the hands-on work required for the installation of pilot products into a restaurant Write and maintain data collection and analysis software Create and Update CAD assemblies and drawings as needed Manage pilot project documentation and contribute to weekly update meetings regarding the progress

What you Need to Succeed: Skills Required



Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or related field Experience with measurement tools such as thermocouples, pressure sensors and data acquisition systems Experience with CAD software (specific experience with SOLIDWORKS is a strength) Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills Solid understanding of operational processes and systems Able to read and interpret technical documents and schematics (including understanding of ASME Y14.5) Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills Able to work independently and as part of a team in a fast moving and agile start-up environment Proficient in Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite Experience in commercial construction operations is a strength Experience with MATLAB and other coding software is a strength
Job Type: Internship / Co-op
Contract length: 12 months

Pay: $20.00-$22.99 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
