This is a temporary full time role
CBC's flagship daily news podcast Front Burner has an exciting opportunity for an innovative producer. Front Burner holds the enviable position of being the country's most listened to Canadian news podcast reaching new, younger and diverse audiences. Hosted by award-winning investigative journalist Jayme Poisson, Front Burner explores the big stories of the day with curiosity and an open mind. The successful candidate is an editorial leader who brings a creative flair to storytelling, innovatively working with sound to create memorable moments for the audience. They are definitely a self-starter, with a proven journalistic track record of working to tight deadlines that might seem impossible to others. They live and breathe podcasts and have a wide-ranging knowledge of domestic and international news as well as arts and culture and how to frame it to make it relevant to the lives of contemporary Canadians. The ideal candidate will bring a distinctive life experience, perspective or expertise to the team that will enrich Front Burner's content. They have a deep understanding and appreciation of diversity of perspective, opinion and experience. They must also have a clear understanding of CBC News Journalistic Standards and Practices.
Key Tasks
Conceives and develops program ideas and concepts
Develops the program content including assigning, researching, gathering, writing and/or editing
Supervise the work of others who contribute to the program or segment being overseen by the Producer
Selects, vets, re-writes and/or edits copy or text written by others
Directs talent, sound and/or image
Edits and mixes, or directs the editing and mixing of audio and/or visual elements
Plans, organizes, coordinates and determines the style, pace, tempo, line-up and format of the program or the components and/or segments of a program, or programs
Exercises editorial responsibility as delegated by Management
Evaluates all facets of a production including the performance of the program and production team and freelance contributors
Participates in the preparation of program objectives
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
University degree or equivalent
Minimum of five years of experience in a journalistic setting
Experience pitching and producing stories and translating those ideas into on-air segments
Deep knowledge of of the Canadian and international news landscape
Experience producing podcasts
Ability to use a variety of software tools including content management systems and Dalet or similar audio editing software
Track record of creativity and innovation with a strong attention to detail
Proven chase skills
Demonstrated expertise in writing and vetting for broadcast and writing of host scripts - and an ability to capture a conversational tone
Demonstrated ability to use tape creatively - and write to it with flair
Excellent organizational skills; ability to prioritize
Demonstrated ability to produce content that can work on multiple platforms
Embraces change and experimentation
Independent, self-motivated combined with the ability to work well in a team environment
Ability to work effectively in a high pressure environment and under tight, daily deadlines
Must be able to solve problems quickly, independently and in-group discussions
A team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Lives and promotes the values of an inclusive and respectful work culture
Strong knowledge and understanding of, and/or connection to underrepresented communities across Canada
Demonstrates a deep understanding and appreciation of the different cultures, opinions and experiences that make up contemporary Canada (new, diverse, younger audience)

Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with CBC Journalistic Standards and Practices
Flexibility to adapt to changing work patterns and methods
Must be available to work on weekends as well as long days and late nights
