Job Description

Job Purpose:

To display and promote natural and organic produce items and support department objectives for sales, margin, inventory turns, labour and customer service.

Responsibilities:

The following is a list of the essential duties and responsibilities of this role. The tasks and time spent performing each task may vary as business needs require. The Sweet Potato maintains the right to modify job duties and responsibilities at its discretion.

Merchandising

Display products according to department standards, maintaining proper storage conditions. Replenish & rotate displays following stocking priorities set by the Department Manager. Merchandise with appropriate signage.

Receiving

Assist in receiving and unloading of merchandise. Check products for quality, count, and condition. Rotate deliveries into storage.

Department Maintenance

Trim, wash, bundle produce as needed. Cut fruit. Maintain health and safety standards. Coordinate storage of items to be returned to suppliers. See that unsellable items are properly disposed of. Maintain department shelves, displays, aisles, prep & storage areas in clean, orderly conditions. Remove trash promptly, sweep, and mop retail area floors frequently. Participate in inventory counts.

Customer Service

Smile, greet, and engage with every customer that comes within 10 feet of you in the store. Assist customers with questions in a prompt, friendly, courteous manner. Make recommendations on products, facilitate with placing or collecting special orders. Report customer suggestions, comments, and complaints to the department manager.
Other Responsibilities.

Assist in other departments as required. Perform other tasks assigned by the Store Manager, MOD, or Department Manager.

Experience in retail Experience in serving the public

Working Conditions

Retail grocery store environment, lifting up to 25 kg Active work environment 100% of the time - standing, walking, kneeling, squatting, bending, reaching Willingness to work a varied schedule of weekends, evenings and mornings. Ability to work in cold, wet conditions.
