About Us

For over 50 years, Anchor Concrete Products Limited has been a trusted manufacturer of high-performance precast concrete solutions, proudly serving Eastern Ontario. Our products are integral to bridges, highways, utilities, and municipal infrastructure, and we're known for our commitment to quality, innovation, and reliability.

As we continue to grow, we are introducing a new Processing Engineer role a hands-on, operations-focused position designed to manage and improve day-to-day production processes. This role will act as the link between plant operations, engineering, and leadership, allowing our Vice President to focus on strategic priorities while ensuring smooth, efficient, and safe production in the plant.

Job Overview

The Processing Engineer will be responsible for overseeing production processes, troubleshooting plant issues, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across our manufacturing operations. This role will be embedded in the plant environment working alongside production teams to ensure timelines are met, quality is maintained, and bottlenecks are resolved quickly.

This is not a purely desk-based engineering role it's a boots-on-the-ground position where you'll balance technical analysis with real-time operational decision making.

Key Responsibilities

Own Day-to-Day Production Oversight

Take ownership of managing daily plant operations by acting as the first point of contact for production supervisors and plant staff on any process, equipment, or workflow issues. Ensure the production schedule is met by proactively monitoring work areas, addressing concerns before they escalate, and making real-time decisions to keep operations on track. This role will significantly reduce the number of operational matters that need to be escalated to the VP, allowing leadership to focus on strategic initiatives.

Troubleshoot and Resolve Issues Quickly

Actively monitor the plant floor to detect and address production bottlenecks, such as slow equipment, material shortages, or manpower gaps, before they cause major delays. Lead quick-response problem-solving efforts, coordinate resources, and implement temporary or permanent solutions to minimize downtime. Maintain clear documentation of issues and corrective actions for future prevention.

Optimize Processes

Conduct thorough workflow analysis from raw material handling through to final product finishing. Identify inefficiencies, unnecessary steps, or outdated practices, and work with team leads to create updated Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Implement process changes that reduce waste, improve throughput, and enhance overall product quality without compromising safety.

Support Mold & Mix Design Projects

Partner with the engineering and quality departments to evaluate and improve mold designs for both new and existing products. Provide feedback on mold durability, ease of use, and efficiency in setup/teardown. Assist in adjusting concrete mix formulas for improved performance based on project specifications, seasonal conditions, and feedback from quality control testing.

Lead Continuous Improvement Initiatives

Act as the driving force for operational excellence by introducing and sustaining lean manufacturing principles, 5S workplace organization, and other best practices that improve safety, reduce variability, and boost productivity. Engage plant staff in identifying opportunities for improvement, ensuring they are involved in and committed to process enhancements.

Monitor KPIs & Drive Accountability

Regularly track and review key production performance indicators, such as cycle times, throughput, scrap/rework rates, and material consumption. Analyze data trends to identify underperformance and implement corrective measures. Report findings to leadership, highlighting successes, challenges, and action plans for improvement.

Train and Support Plant Staff

Develop and deliver hands-on training for plant personnel on new processes, equipment, and safety protocols. Ensure employees understand and can follow SOPs, troubleshoot basic issues, and maintain consistent quality standards. Provide coaching and mentorship to build skills and confidence in the production team.

Assist in Capital Projects

Work closely with engineering, maintenance, and leadership on plant layout changes, new equipment purchases, and technology upgrades. Provide input on design, functionality, and installation sequencing to ensure minimal disruption to production and maximum long-term efficiency.

Foster a Collaborative Culture

Maintain open, respectful, and solution-focused communication with all departments, ensuring production, engineering, quality, and maintenance teams work toward shared goals. Promote a positive workplace culture where employees feel supported, informed, and valued for their contributions. Actively mediate and resolve conflicts to maintain team cohesion.

Skills & Qualifications

Degree or diploma in Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial Engineering (or related field) 2-5 years in a manufacturing or plant engineering environment (precast concrete experience is an asset) Proven ability to manage day-to-day production operations in a hands-on role Strong understanding of production process flow, quality assurance, and materials handling Proficiency with CAD software and/or process simulation tools (asset) Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both leadership and front-line staff Comfortable working in an active, fast-paced plant environment
