Position Summary

An exciting opportunity exists in our Metals Division in Fort Saskatchewan for a Process Safety Specialist.

Reporting to the Director, Engineering & Projects, the Process Safety Specialist will provide technical leadership and expertise in Process Safety. The incumbent will be responsible for managing and coordinating activities related to Sherritt\xe2\x80\x99s Process Safety Management Program.

Accountabilities

  • Improve the overall site knowledge for process safety.
  • Organize and facilitate activities to support Sherritt\'s Process Safety Management Program.
  • Develop and maintain key performance indicators related to the PSM program.
  • Facilitate internal and external audits of the PSM program.
  • Manage and maintain records associated with all elements of the PSM program.
  • Ensure that the process safety training program is maintained.
  • Work with SMT to enhance Process Safety Culture at Sherritt.
  • Ensure that MOC and PHA programs are audited in compliance with the program.
  • Establish the protocol for maintenance of PSM documentation. Steward recommendations from Risk assessment activities, such as HAZOP, LOPA, and PHAs.
  • Work with Engineering disciplines to provide oversight and guidance in maintaining process safety information, such as P&IDs, PFDs, Cause and Effect Diagrams.
  • Provide a framework to ensure that Safe Operating Limits are defined for equipment and systems.
  • Development of Technical Standards, Practices, and Procedures relating to Process Safety, and Facility Management of Change.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and optimization of the Engineering & Projects plan, aligned with the Fort Site Asset Management strategy.
  • Subject Matter Expertise in Process Safety.
  • Lead efforts to improve and document Process Safety knowledge at the Fort Site.
  • Investigate, recommend, and apply new technologies to improve process safety.
  • Design systems and processes to effectively deliver Sherritt\xe2\x80\x99s Process Safety Management program (PSM).
  • Contribute to optimizing the performance of the Engineering team by following good or best practices, embracing a culture of continuous improvement and lean thinking, seeking technical innovation, and following management systems.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s or Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • Registration with APEGA as P.Eng.
  • 10+ years of experience specializing in process safety.
  • Knowledge of process equipment (pumps, heat exchangers, columns, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of hydrometallurgical, is a preference.
  • Working knowledge of Maintenance, Engineering, and Reliability
  • Engineering policies, standards, practices, procedures, and business processes
  • Expertise Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) techniques
  • Business planning (3-12 months)
  • Ability to understand and execute technical work of high complexity, review of engineering deliverables, analysis, and development of solutions to complex problems.
  • Able to lead the development of discipline procedures and standards.
  • Strong interpersonal skills along with the ability to function in multiple cross-functional project teams.
  • Able to understand and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with co-workers, clients, and management.
  • Sufficient computer skills to develop new software tools and use existing software tools to solve complex engineering problems.
  • Able to understand, analyze and discover solutions to complex technical problems.
  • Skills to coordinate with operations, projects, construction, maintenance, and inspection groups.
