Process Safety Engineer

Based in the Fort Saskatchewan this role will report to the Process Engineering Manager. The Process Safety Engineer will play a key role in supporting the commissioning and operation phase in the Process Safety Management (PSM) domain.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s or Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Engineering (Chemical preferred)
• APEGA registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer in Alberta

• 4 - 8 years of relevant work experience
• 2+ years in Process Safety Management preferred
• Experience with Risk Assessment techniques such a HAZOPs and LOPA mandatory
• Knowledge in Quantitative Risk Assessments, Bowtie analysis and SIL verification considered an asset
• Proven experience with Incident investigation tools such as RCA, TapRoot \xc2\xae - nice to have
• A background on an operating site considered a strong asset

• Strong communication skills are essential

• Support the company in establishing focus on relevant elements of PSM
• Support and/or facilitate, risk assessment activities at HPC. Activities may include Bowtie Analysis, Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP), Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA) and other risk assessment techniques
• Collaborate with multiple interfaces in coordinating and supporting Management of Change (MOC) activities at the facility, including Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR)
• Be one of the ambassadors for the MOC process
• Generate Process safety KPIs and initiate follow-up as required
• Steward recommendations from Risk assessment activities such as HAZOP and LOPA
• Provide oversight and guidance in maintaining Process Safety Information such as P&ID\'s, PFD\'s, Cause and Effect Diagrams \xe2\x80\x93 to name a few
• Support the documentation of Safe Operating Limit (SOL) for critical equipment
• Facilitate or support investigation of Process Safety Events
• Identify Safety Critical Elements for Plant Operations and assist the Maintenance and Reliability teams in developing critical maintenance tasks
• Provide Process Safety engineering support to site in areas such as facility siting, relief rate calculations \xe2\x80\x93 as an example
• Assistance in, or lead, the development of technical standards, practices and procedures
