Hydrasurvey, North America's leading provider of independent sludge and sediment measurement, is seeking a talented individual to join our growing technical team as a Process and Fluid Systems Research and Development Engineer. This is a unique opportunity to apply advanced theoretical knowledge to real-world industrial and environmental challenges, with a primary focus on advancing our proprietary technology from full-scale prototype to a commercially viable product.

The Role: Technology Commercialization & Fluid Systems



This demanding, multi-faceted

one-year contract role (with the possibility of extension for the right candidate)

requires a unique combination of field work, laboratory analysis, and advanced engineering design and programming.

The primary focus of this role will be to advance the technology from a full-scale prototype to a commercialized product. You must demonstrate the ability to lead and execute the technological advancement of the technology towards commercialization.

Core Responsibilities



Technology Advancement:

Lead the technical development, testing, and refinement of the prototype, resolving engineering challenges to prepare it for market release.

Process & Analysis:

Apply expertise in multiphase fluid dynamics to optimize the Technology's performance in complex industrial slurries.

Mechanical Design:

Design and refine mechanical components and piping networks within the system.

Instrumentation:

Design, integrate, and troubleshoot the instrumentation and electrical systems that power and control the Technology.

Field Support:

Willingness to assist with other Hydrasurvey tasks, including but not limited to field surveying and general technical support.

Required Skills & Qualifications



Due to the nature of our work and travel requirements, all applicants must meet the following mandatory criteria:

Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident A minimum of 1-2 years of related work experience is required. Possess a valid, full Class 5 (non-GDL) Driver's License with 2 years minimum Canadian driving experience Must be physically fit and able to perform demanding fieldwork, including lifting equipment >50 lbs, working outdoors in various weather conditions, and navigating challenging industrial and field sites. Willingness to travel extensively across Canada and the US to work on-site in industrial, municipal, and remote field environments. This is an in-person role working out of Hydrasurvey's Calgary, Alberta office.

Education & Technical Skills



Graduate Degree (Master of Science or Engineering) in Mechanical, Chemical, Environmental Engineering, or a related scientific discipline is required. Strong knowledge of Fluid Dynamics, including underlying theory, governing mathematics, and practical industrial applications. Expertise in Multiphase Fluids behaviour and properties. Proficiency in programming languages, specifically Python and C++, for modeling, data analysis, and system control. Knowledge of Instrumentation and Electrical System Design and practical troubleshooting. Knowledge of Mechanical Design, particularly as it relates to piping networks.

Field & Sample Analysis



Demonstrated Laboratory Skills for material analysis and testing. Ability to handle and work with industrial sludges and biosolids by collecting and analyzing samples in the field and lab. Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and project requirements is essential.

Desirable Experience



Knowledge of

multi-phase slurries

is a significant advantage. Knowledge of

dredging

principles and operations. Previous experience with research and development and technology commercialization.

Pay and Compensation



Position Type:

1-year, full-time contract, 90 day probationary period

Hours of Work:

37.5 hours per week

Salary Range:

$70,000 - $80,000 CAD, salaried commensurate with experience

Vacation:

10 paid vacation days

Personal days:

2 paid personal days
