The Process Engineer is responsible for optimizing and improving the performance of the talc grinding and flotation circuits to ensure efficient, safe, and consistent production. The role involves monitoring plant performance, troubleshooting process issues, implementing improvements, and supporting the operations and maintenance teams in achieving production and quality targets.
JOB SCOPE/DIMENSIONS
Interact with Mill Managers, supervisors, other Production Team members, maintenance, and the Technical Department, to investigate and implement ways to improve operations.
This position requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as a practical understanding of mineral processing principles, plant operations, and continuous improvement methodologies.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety, Quality, and Compliance
Fully support health, safety, environmental and quality (HSEQ) programs by participating in their implementation, maintenance, and enforcement as well as compliance with corporate
policies
Maintain accurate documentation of process changes, SOPs, and test results
Provide guidance, training, and support to operators and supervisors.
Process Optimization and Control
Monitor and analyze daily plant performance data across all mill circuits.
Identify process bottlenecks and implement corrective actions to improve recovery, throughput, and product quality.
Develop and maintain mass balances and process flow models for mill circuits.
Optimize reagent usage, grinding media consumption, and energy efficiency
Technical Support and Troubleshooting
Provide technical guidance to operations and maintenance teams on process-related issues.
Conduct sampling campaigns, metallurgical test work, and performance audits.
Support process control strategies including instrumentation, data analytics, and automation improvements
Project and Continuous Improvement
Lead or support capital and process improvement projects aimed at increasing plant reliability and performance.
Prepare justifications for capital projects and coordinate the completion of projects via in-house maintenance staff and/or outside contractors
Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and failure mode and effects (FEMA) investigations for process upsets or quality deviations.
Reports and Analytics
Able to compile and present detailed data and Project Management information to keep superiors updated with critical project activity.
Provide appropriate management team with reports and recommendations for improving existing processes, installing new processes or technologies, and making new product
OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS
Support the maintenance department shutdown activities.
Proficiency and practical experience with basic mineral processing techniques, including froth flotation, magnetic separation, crushing and grinding, etc.
Demonstrated ability to design and optimize processes.
Strong practical engineering and troubleshooting skills with desire to work hands-on
Familiarity with laboratory work
Strong organizational and planning skills. Able to manage multiple and competing priorities and prioritize tasks appropriately.
Project management skills desirable.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education and Experience requirements:
Bachelor's degree in metallurgy, materials engineering, chemical engineering, or equivalent mineral processing engineering related degree
1-5 years of relevant work experience in mineral processing or mining fields
Knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics:
Advanced computer skills with the Microsoft suite.
Familiarity with Pi, HMI, Factory Talk, Minitab and CAD
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work flexible hours when required.
Ability to work to deadlines in a safe manner
* Willingness for occasional travel to other work sites (less than 10%)
