BIOVECTRA Inc. has an opening for a Process Development Scientist, Biologics. This is a permanent, full-time position located in Charlottetown, PEI.
The candidate will be responsible for:
Developing methods and transferring methods provided by clients for recombinant proteins or small molecule purification using chromatography techniques such as affinity, ion exchange, and size exclusion chromatography.
Operating and maintaining AKTA systems for protein purification, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.
Designing experiments for process characterization, scale up and technology transfer to GMP manufacturing.
Applying literature searches to create innovative experimental approaches to develop and optimize processes, finding applicable data, interpreting this in the context of the experimental process and communicating the information to the rest of the team.
Responsible for designing, planning, and executing laboratory experiments.
Defining experimental protocols and writing work instructions and SOPs.
Reviewing and approve documentation for each study or experiment ensuring data integrity and quality, taking responsibility for documentation quality.
Overseeing and executing complex experiments in non-GMP and/or GMP environments.
Interpreting data to develop theories and define process improvement strategies.
Responsible for writing scientific progress reports and conducting internal presentations.
Transferring technology and processes to technical staff, as an active member of the project team working interdepartmentally with analytical, MST, TechOps, and Quality Projects.
Supporting existing manufacturing processes, making modifications to procedures as needed and informing internal stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition from one department to another.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with management, technical specialists in related disciplines, and scientists on development projects.
Providing in-depth training on equipment and procedures based on previous experience.
Leading continuous improvement initiatives for laboratory operations.
The successful candidate for this position should have:
College diploma plus Biotechnology.
College diploma plus 5 years of relevant experience is preferred.
Undergraduate degree plus 4 years of relevant experience is preferred.
Master's degree plus 2 years of relevant experience is preferred.
PhD degree is preferred.
At least two years of experience in protein purification and chromatography, preferably in a biopharmaceutical or related industry.
Extensive hands-on experience with AKTA systems and chromatography techniques.
Experience in microbial fermentation is an asset.
Experience with plasmid DNA and molecular biology techniques is an asset
Experience in cGMP environment is an asset.
Ability to switch easily from project to project, as well as conduct various tasks.
Excellent attention to detail.
Excellent organizational and presentation skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Heavy lifting occasionally required (up to 20kg).
Ability and willingness to work with potent compounds and following all safety precautions and protocols.
Work conditions:
Ability to work flexible/extended hours, periodically, as dictated by process needs. Occasional shift work could be required.

Starting annual salary is based on skills and qualifications: $60,000
