The Opportunity



The Process & Control Room Engineer role plays a crucial part in our mission to maintain operational excellence and foster strong relationships with customers and stakeholders. This role provides technical expertise and operational support across multiple pipelines and facilities in the Pipeline Business Unit. Key responsibilities include troubleshooting processes and controls, leading process and control Management of Change (MOC) activities, and serving as a liaison between the engineering team and the control room. By ensuring the smooth operation of our pipelines and facilities, this role directly contributes to our mission and the company's success.



This position will report directly to Wolf Pipeline's Manager, Field Engineering. The Process & Control Room Engineer will support the Manager and key internal project stakeholders from Operations, Maintenance, Operations Engineering, Supply Chain, Regulatory, Automation, and Safety, as required.

Key Responsibilities



Act as the first point of contact for Control Center Operators (CCOs) during process-related issues Provide troubleshooting support for facility-wide process concerns across multiple assets Collaborate with automation teams to assist in designing, developing, and optimizing process control systems, including PLCs, SCADA, and DCS, in control loops such as control valve tuning and performance optimization, and pump performance Participate in troubleshooting and optimizing existing control systems to improve process efficiency Support the implementation of control strategies in collaboration with operations engineers Conduct data analysis to identify process performance metrics and areas for improvement Identify opportunities to improve pipeline throughput, reduce energy consumption, and enhance reliability Provide engineering support during abnormal operating conditions, alarms, or equipment failures and then investigate root causes and recommend corrective actions Document control system configurations and maintain accurate records of modifications Update Control Philosophies and Shutdown Keys as part of the Management of Change (MOC) process Lead and manage process-related MOCs, ensuring thorough documentation and testing Review operability requests and support MOC validation and implementation Facilitate communication between Engineering and CCOs through: Weekly Engineering touchpoint meetings Identify, manage and mitigate role-related risks Skills in interpreting data for process monitoring, leak detection, and optimization, often using tools like Excel or other related programming software Understanding of alarm management and rationalization, and adherence to standards Willingness to learn hydraulic simulation software to complete steady state and transient analysis on small system changes

NOTE:

This position will involve trips to field facilities approximately once/month. This position will also involve on-call schedule during weekends, approximately once every 5 weeks.



Qualifications and Experience



Education:



Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field

Experience and Credentials:



Minimum 8 years of directly related experience A Professional Engineering Designation in Alberta, as a Member of Good Standing Basic understanding of control theory and process automation Familiarity with process instrumentation and control devices, and /or automation projects Understanding of hydraulics, including steady state and transients Experience working with hydraulic simulation software is an asset Knowledge of Alberta's pipeline regulations, and CSA-Z662, among other industry standards and safety regulations related to process control Experience with version control systems for managing source code is an asset Familiarity with programming languages used in process control, such as Ladder Logic or Function Block Diagram and simulation software for process control would be an asset Must have a full class 5 driver's license to travel to the field
