Job Description

PEI Bag Company has an opportunity for Printing Press Operator. The Printing Press Operator is responsible for all tasks associated with safely producing printed roll stock for both our paper bag machines and/or for finished goods being sent direct to customer. Using two central impression drum water-based flexographic printing presses, we print on paper roll stock to produce food grade packaging for the agriculture and dry goods industries.

What You'll Do:

  • Mixing of water based flexographic inks and fill ink fountains.
  • Clean ink fountains, plates, printing cylinders and printing machine as required.
  • Secure printing plates to printing units.
  • Load presses with paper and make necessary adjustments, according to paper size.
  • Start presses and analyze proofs to check for ink coverage, density, alignment, and registration.
  • Maintain printing presses in good running order by making minor repairs, replacement of consumable parts and working with maintenance department to resolve machine problems.
  • Collect and inspect random samples during print runs to identify any necessary adjustments.
  • Monitor and adjust ink viscosity, flow rates and other ink performance criteria.
  • Change press plates, or cylinders as required for quality or dimension changes.
  • Examine job orders to determine quantities printed, paper stock, colors, or special instructions.
  • Feed paper through machine, press cylinders and adjust feed and tension controls.
  • Input production job settings into workstation terminals that control automated printing systems.
  • Monitor automated press operation systems and respond to fault, error, or alert messages.
  • Direct or monitor work of press helper.
  • Maintain time or production records.
  • Monitor environmental factors, such as humidity and temperature, that may impact equipment performance and make necessary adjustments.
  • Monitor inventory, ordering or requesting additional supplies, as necessary.
  • Set up or operate auxiliary equipment, such as trimming/cutting and plate-mounting, machines.
  • Other duties as assigned by Team Leader or supervisor.
Work Environment:
The physical environment requires the employee to move in a fast-paced indoor manufacturing environment. Frequently required to use personal protective equipment for safety precaution. Must be able to pay attention to detail. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Stand for extended periods of time and bend, crouch, or kneel as may be required to repair equipment.

Hours
Hours of work are Monday to Friday. Weekends and overnights off!
This position will work one of two shifts:
6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.; or
2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Some overtime may be required based on production demands.

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Demonstrates safe work behaviours and follow safety policies

  • Ability to follow instructions, work with minimal supervision
  • Good communication and listening skills
  • Self-motivated with the willingness to stick to tasks that may be repetitive in nature
  • Strong attention to detail and able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
