DESCRIPTION

AWS Aurora is continuously pushing the boundaries of a cloud native database, we have one of the fastest growing services in AWS - and our engineers are eager to brainstorm, mentor, and get software built together. We build hyper scale software & we patent new things.

In this role, you will use your skills and expertise to navigate a complex ecosystem and interact with a diverse set of stakeholders to continue to build new features and scale Aurora\'s service through working with the broader AWS ecosystem and inventing new technology. You will work with customers to define the roadmap, convert the roadmap into scalable software architecture, and will work with senior engineers to convert that into world-class production services. You will drive all parts of the software development process by significantly contributing to the yearly planning cycles (OP1 & OP2), working backward from customers by writing requirements (PR-FAQ), building, and tracking business & service metrics by which the team works to improve customer experience, design, and implement solutions that are scalable, maintainable and extensible. You will be using the best of the available AWS tools and be responsible for producing clean, re-usable architecture, design, and code. You will mentor and guide Sr. Engineers, set quality standards, and build mechanisms and processes for the organization\'s efficiency, continuously inventing and simplifying our development processes to better serve our customers.

We are looking for a principal engineer with expertise, ambition, and passion for solving complex problems in distributed systems with a relentless drive to improve our services continuously. You will be working on AWS\'s hardest problems, building high-quality, architecturally sound systems aligned with our business needs. As an AWS principal technical contributor, you are pragmatic visionaries who can translate business needs into workable technology solutions. Your expertise is deep and broad, hands-on, producing detailed technical work and high-level architectural designs but driven to engage with business problems and leaders to invent simple solutions with real-world applications.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 10+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- Experience designing and building large-scale systems in a multi-tiered, distributed environment (Service Oriented Architecture)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Master\'s degree in computer science or equivalent
- Experience creating architectural vision
