Job Description

Job Title: Principal Quality Engineer
We are seeking a hands-on technical leader to define and advocate for a comprehensive test strategy within our engineering organization. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of modern test automation while appreciating the importance of manual testing, testability design, and embedding quality thinking into every stage of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). You will lead the way in unifying our testing practices, elevating test automation as a core competency, and organizing around a modern quality strategy.
Responsibilities

  • Own and drive our test strategy, creating a strategic roadmap for quality investment that transcends day-to-day product delivery demands.
  • Lead by example in this hands-on role by writing code, contributing to frameworks, and modeling excellence.
  • Design and implement test automation architecture that is fast, scalable, reliable, and integrated with development workflows.
  • Assess current tooling, practices, and test coverage to identify gaps and lead the evolution toward best-in-class solutions.
  • Create and champion guiding philosophies around the types of tests (unit, integration, E2E, performance), their ownership, and location.
  • Influence through partnership and mentorship, working alongside engineers, QA, and team leads to elevate testing practices and delivery quality.
  • Define and track meaningful quality metrics such as test coverage, flakiness, bug leakage, and release confidence.
  • Promote a shared-responsibility model for quality across engineering and introduce an 'automation-first' mindset.
  • Empower developers to write and maintain test suites as part of their normal development workflow.
  • Support learning and adoption with focus sessions with developers, internal workshops, and documentation.
  • Reinforce clear ownership and expectations around test planning and embed quality review into product design and engineering kickoffs.
  • Define quality gates and integrate them into CI/CD pipelines and PR processes.
Essential Skills
  • Proven success in defining and building a comprehensive, modern test strategy for cloud-native enterprise software.
  • Deep expertise in test automation frameworks, tools, and CI/CD integration across the software testing pyramid.
  • Strong coding skills in Python and familiarity with test frameworks like Cypress, Playwright, Selenium, JUnit.
  • Experience with Agile, DevOps, and continuous delivery environments.
  • Excellent communication and mentoring skills, with the ability to influence without chain-of-command authority.
  • Experience with QA change management processes across multiple teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working in recognizable SaaS companies.
  • Strong experience with microservices and DevOps, including CICD processes.
  • Familiarity with one of the major cloud providers (GCP, AWS, Azure).
