Purpose

Reporting to the Manager of Ethics & Investigations Americas, the Principal Ethics & Investigations Potash is primarily responsible for conducting specialized investigations as a key member of BHP\'s Global Response & Investigation Team (RIT) within Ethics & Investigations in North America, specifically Potash (Canada). The incumbent will investigate Category A matters (Fraud, Corruption, Sexual Harassment, Sexual Aggression, Retaliation, among others) in accordance with the RIT Investigation Framework. This role provides support to the business and different areas regarding Ethical Behavior, BHP Code of Conduct, Charter Values, Policies, etc. A major responsibility will be to advise and support training, workshops, and campaigns to the business in all Category A matters and Code of Conduct.

Work Location

Downtown, Saskatoon office. 40 hours per week. Hybrid working (flexible, shared workstations and a combination of office and work from home) is standard for BHP.

About the Role

Core accountabilities include but are not limited to:

  • Leading Category A investigations
  • Analyzing evidence and conducting interviews with reporter, respondent, and relevant parties, to then engage, provide recommendations, and inform stakeholders
  • Exercising judgment and applying technical knowledge to determine if allegations of serious misconduct are legitimate
  • Leading the identification of organizational learnings for the business
  • Working closely with the investigation support team and the Support Line (Ethics Support Services)
  • Preparing supporting documentation for investigations, including records of witness, forensic review, electronic communications, and investigation reports
  • Supporting legal matters regarding investigations, disciplinary sanctions, and/or testimony on trial
  • Supporting other areas of the business regarding Code of Conduct policies, changes, and protocols
  • Exhibiting continuous awareness of BHP\'s Charter Values and Code of Conduct within the company (trainings, workshops, seminars, etc.)
  • Supporting continuous engagement and collaboration with key stakeholders (Human Resources, Employee Relations, Health Safety & Environment, Corporate Affairs, contractors, etc.)
  • Preparing Investigation Framework materials, delivering training to stakeholders, and providing assistance to other areas
  • Supporting key projects to increase the human-centricity of the Company\'s response to various forms of unethical conduct, including alternative resolution options, and other innovative responses
  • Empowering disadvantaged or minority groups within BHP to speak up and raise concerns about unfair, unethical, or discriminatory treatment
  • Providing advice to the Head of Ethics and Manager Investigations Americas and engaging with stakeholders directly relating to Ethics & Investigations and Code of Conduct issues in Canada (escalating to Head of Ethics and Manager Investigations Americas where necessary)
About You

As an effective communicator you will showcase professionalism, and strong ability to build and maintain stakeholder relationships. You are skilled at managing interpersonal conflicts, and high-conflict personalities and situations.
Required:
  • Degree qualified in law, investigations, accounting, or related fields (or extensive relevant equivalent experience)
Recommended:
  • Experience working in global resources companies
  • Experiences working with Indigenous populations would be considered a strong asset
Pivotal Experiences for the role:
  • At least 4-5 years\' experience in legal or internal investigations, litigation, or compliance
  • Experience handling and managing matters of confidential nature as well as sensitive information
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement, advisory and influencing with relevant stakeholder groups
  • Functional capability in legal and ethical conduct
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills - confident, clear and succinct
  • Strong interpersonal skills and team player
  • Ability to work autonomously but also works effectively within a team and is a positive contribution to the team
  • Able to successfully engage with people from different cultures/background to build trusted relationships
  • Problem solving - navigates through complexity and ambiguity to help others understand key issues
  • Strong understanding of and commitment to inclusion and diversity objectives and human rights, including empathy for the experience of minority groups within BHP who experience unfair or discriminatory treatment
  • Strategy and policy development skills, with the ability to quickly respond to public sentiment and drive change
  • Personal resiliency
