Job Profile description
Main purpose of the role & responsibilities in the business:
As a Principal Digital Consultant at Kainos, you will act as a strategic partner to senior leaders across DS Americas, shaping policy, service delivery, and digital transformation at scale. You will combine deep consulting expertise with lived experience in digital government, acting as a trusted advisor who influences culture, operating models, and technology strategy. You will guide organisations through complex change, promote modern ways of working, and help clients build trust and achieve better outcomes.
You will lead from the first conversation--exploring strategic goals, identifying opportunities, shaping solution approaches, and building the narrative that enables buy-in, alignment, and rapid delivery. As a client influencer, you will connect sales, delivery, and technical specialists, ensuring coherence, quality, and impact throughout the engagement lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Advisory & Digital Government Leadership

  • Build trusted advisory relationships with C-level leaders, shaping priorities, transformation agendas, and long-term digital strategies.
  • Provide expertise across digital service design, operating model redesign, policy influence, and technology options.
  • Promote modern technology delivery, digital public infrastructure, and emerging technologies such as AI.
  • Influence policy and culture change within government, advocating for user-centred, data-driven service delivery.
Advocacy, Thought Leadership & Public Engagement
  • Act as a high-level spokesperson for digital government services and represent the organisation at public events, conferences, and media engagements.
  • Develop thought leadership content--including reports, white papers, and presentations--grounded in real-world experience in digital transformation.
  • Champion inclusive leadership and help elevate diverse talent in the digital sector.
Client Engagement & Relationship Building
  • Establish and deepen relationships with strategic accounts, public sector organisations, government agencies, and technology partners.
  • Lead pre-sales, business development, and value articulation to identify and shape new opportunities.
  • Collaborate with business development teams to understand market dynamics, policy shifts, and customer motivations.
  • Work across internal teams to position the organisation as a trusted transformation partner.
Digital Strategy, Delivery Assurance & Outcomes
  • Guide clients through the transition to agile, user-centred, and data-informed operating models.
  • Lead the development of principle-based transformation strategies that enable cultural, structural, and service delivery change.
  • Provide solution assurance--clarifying intent, outcomes, societal impact, and technical complexity for delivery teams.
  • Support delivery engagements to ensure alignment with scope, timelines, budgets, and quality measures.
Leadership Development, Innovation & Digital Literacy
  • Support the development of digital leadership capability across government, fostering literacy, confidence, and modern practices.
  • Provide strategic direction for innovation labs and cross-sector collaborations addressing societal challenges.
  • Design and deliver mentorship programs, workshops, and leadership development initiatives.
  • Empower women and underrepresented groups in digital leadership roles.
Internal Leadeship & Growth
  • Lead the growth of Digital Advisory through offering development, knowledge sharing, and mentoring.
  • Motivate and develop high-performing teams, ensuring wellbeing, inclusion, and a supportive culture.
  • Shape account strategies and drive follow-on work to build a robust pipeline of opportunities.
Minimum (Essential) Requirements
  • Deep experience advising public sector organisations on digital transformation, service innovation, and modern technology delivery.
  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive complex cultural and operational change.
  • Demonstrated success leading consulting engagements to deliver strategic outcomes within scope, budget, and timelines.
  • Strong background in public policy, governance, digital strategy, and service modernisation.
  • Experience in pre-sales, business development, and shaping strategic opportunities.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical and strategic concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Commitment to inclusive leadership and developing diverse talent.
  • Experience leading teams, mentoring colleagues, and creating high-performance environments.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, low digital maturity, and challenging organisational contexts with resilience and integrity.
  • Understanding of the intersection of technology, policy, and citizen outcomes.
Desirable
  • Experience working with Canadian federal or provincial governments or similar jurisdictions.
  • Familiarity with digital public infrastructure (e.g., digital identity, data exchange, cloud platforms).
