They are seeking a Principal, Building Science Specialist to join their Canada West Leadership Team. The Building Science Specialist is a technical leader within RDH and will involve the application of building science fundamentals to a wide range of buildings. You will focus on leading building enclosure consulting work from the investigation of building enclosure performance problems through to design and construction, with a primary focus on existing buildings. You will work with others to further develop and grow our services in British Columbia, including the integration of a climate resilience paradigm into their traditional building science solutions. The position will include the development and maintenance of client relationships, identifying and responding to project opportunities, developing and delivering building science service offerings, technical leadership, and the development of staff to support their services. In addition to the core technical leadership, this role also includes the opportunity to be a key contributor to the strategic direction of their Canada West region and to take on significant internal team leadership responsibility.

What you will be doing:

  • Manage and develop client relationships
  • Lead the team as project principal throughout all investigation, design and construction stages of existing building projects
  • Participate as part of the team for early-stage services, including strategic advice for the integration of energy, building enclosure, heating/cooling and ventilation performance objectives
  • Lead the continual development of the company\xe2\x80\x99s services and approach to best address the needs of our clients and the industry
  • Provide expertise and guidance, input, or internal peer review for projects
  • Undertake project specific business development activities and proposal preparation
  • Provide mentorship to staff and support their career development plans
  • Help to ensure delivery of services and products to meet company quality standards including development of internal processes and technical standards/checklists
  • Assist with the development and delivery of in-house and client education and training programs
  • Provide technical leadership including sharing knowledge on the company\xe2\x80\x99s internal technical forums
  • Network within the building enclosure community, including authoring papers and speaking engagements at various industry events and seminars
  • Help advance our knowledge as visible experts in our field
What you must have:
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Engineering, Applied Science, or Architecture
  • 15+ years of experience in building science and engineering, with knowledge of architecture and construction with a focus on building enclosure
  • Field experience addressing site conditions and managing construction process and contract issues
  • Demonstrated business development experience
  • Successful relationship building experience particularly with developers, architects, building owners and other project team members
  • Proven success leading projects involving large and small buildings
  • Excellent technical knowledge of building science, building enclosure design, and construction processes
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with clients, staff, and consultants
  • Ability to gather and diagnose information, interpret data and drawings, and assess conditions for multiple components
  • Analytical problem solving skills and strong investigative aptitude, including ability to troubleshoot and diagnose building performance issues
  • Proven team player who fosters teamwork and cooperation
  • Fast learner with the ability to develop technical and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent ability to communicate complex technical information to staff, clients, and trades
  • Excellent ability to shift focus between changing priorities
  • Solid project management skills and the ability to manage performance of others
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including presentation skills
  • Strong work ethic, eager to assume responsibility quickly
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
