What will you do at Ciena as a Principal Analog Layout Designer?

The Wavelogic family of products is widely used in Ciena's optical fiber transmission solutions and is one of the main contributors to Ciena's success in the telecommunications industry. Successful candidates will be joining a vibrant team with a proven track record of success over 30-years of evolution and revolution in the advancement of high-speed circuits used in broadband fiber-optic modems. This team pioneered the introduction of the world's first high-speed DAC and ADC analog macros that ushered in the era of coherent fiber-optic product solutions.

To further strengthen our team, we are looking for a hardworking principle analog layout engineer who will be involved in leading design enablement of advanced high-speed analog circuits in the latest deep-submicron CMOS and/or BiCMOS technologies. Your role as a principal analog layout engineer will be to drive and implement best-in-class high-speed analog layouts that extract the highest performance from the world's most advanced CMOS and BiCMOS technologies. These analog macros include electrical interface-facing DAC and ADC based
SERDES solutions for 112G and 224G, optical-line-facing high-speed DAC and ADC circuits interfacing with optical modulators and detectors, transimpedance amplifiers, modulator driver circuits, and critical precision analog circuits for control and monitoring functions, etc..

In this role, your responsibilities and duties include:

Block and Macro level layout development including floor-planning, layout creation and optimization

Perform layout feasibility work with various circuit topologies working with senior analog designers to achieve a best-in-class solution to carry through detailed implementation by weighing tradeoffs and discussing these with other members of the team.

Perform physical verification and electromigration checks

Write automation scripts for layout flow improvements including pcells

Use PERC for ESD verification and debugging

Operate effectively in a team environment while contributing to the team's success

Mentor junior layout team members as applicable who may assist with some aspects of the overall layout implementation

Report on status updates on a regular basis, participate in team meetings and share experience with the rest of the group

What technical experience and personal skills are required for this role?

Electrical or computer engineering, computer science or other applicable scientific degree at the BEng/BSc, MEng/MSc, or Ph.D level.

Experience in a leading analog high-speed layout role in advanced BiCMOS and/or CMOS technologies with years of industrial experience.

A highly motivated self-starter, able to work independently, while being a great teammate.

Ability to methodically address sophisticated technical problems.

Excellent organization, written and oral (English) interpersonal skills.

Proficiency above the intermediate level with use of applicable design tools from Cadence, Mentor and Synopsys for analog design (eg Virtuoso, Calibre, etc.).

A history of successful analog circuit product deliveries.
