Under the supervision as determined by the department's organizational structure and the Medical Directors' designated scope of practice, the Community Paramedic is responsible for providing pre-hospital medical services to the citizens of Winnipeg in accordance with established and approved medical standards and protocols.
The Primary Community Paramedic's primary responsibilities include providing medical care, intake screening, and continued monitoring of individuals being detained under the Protective Detention and Care of Intoxicated Person's Act at the Protective Care Centre or at the Winnipeg Police Service Central Processing Unit; additional responsibilities include medical evaluation, treatment, and patient referrals for individuals accessing services in all program areas. The Community Paramedic's work collectively with many other health care resources within the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA). This ensures continuity of patient care, and timely access to much needed health resources for a vulnerable at-risk population. In addition, the Primary Community Paramedic will be responsible for students as assigned by the WFPS Clinical Education Coordinator.
