What you'll do





Strategy and Vision


Establish and promote a clear strategy and vision for BC Hydro's future. Formulate, implement, and evaluate BC Hydro's strategic and operational plans to ensure alignment with provincial
energy policies and regulatory requirements.


Develop and recommend the strategic business plan to the Board of Directors and successfully implement corresponding
corporate operational plans, capital plans, and other supporting initiatives.


Lead the organization in its ongoing transition to clean and renewable energy solutions while maintaining service reliability. Ensures the Corporation's public policy responsibilities that have been assigned by Government have been incorporated
into the strategic business plan and annual Service Plan.




Leadership


Provide leadership to ensure BC Hydro's operations, infrastructure development, and energy solutions align with the
needs of British Columbia's residents, businesses, and communities.


Play a pivotal role in ensuring that the organization consistently upholds and embodies our intended values and culture,
fostering an environment of integrity, collaboration, and innovation.


Demonstrate strong safety leadership, ensuring that our commitment to safety is paramount and consistently upheld
across all operations, particularly given the high-hazard nature of our industry.


Ensure services are delivered within financial and environmental parameters while supporting the province's clean energy
goals.


Ensure BC Hydro's organizational structure, governance, and resource utilization align with its mandate to deliver reliable,
affordable, and sustainable energy.


Foster the development of management practices that focus on continuous improvement and customer service. Provide strong, effective and highly visible leadership and coaching to members of senior management in order to
capitalize on the full potential of this most critical resource.


Responsible for the selection, promotion, utilization, retention, development and compensation of senior management
reporting directly to the CEO.


Ensure the utilization of an effective succession planning process to develop the necessary depth among executive
leadership.


Annually establish and maintain a Board-reviewed plan for executive leadership development and succession. Promote a corporate culture that values ethical practices, environmental stewardship, social responsibility and
reconciliation.




Board & Stakeholder Relations


Maintain an effective working relationship with the Board of Directors, providing timely and accurate updates on BC
Hydro's performance and progress related to the strategic plan.


Uphold a productive relationship with the Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions and provincial government
representatives through regular communication, active participation in policy discussions, and ensuring alignment with the


government mandate.


Seek Board approval for expenditures, revenue measures, leases, or other actions or transactions falling outside the plans
approved by the Board.


Oversee the identification and reporting of enterprise risks to the Board and ensures the implementation of systems to manage these risks effectively.


Foster strong relationships with government, regulatory bodies, Indigenous communities, industry stakeholders, and the
public to support BC Hydro's goals.


Together with the Chair, act as a primary spokesperson for BC Hydro and oversee the Corporation's interfaces with
Government and other stakeholders, including:


Developing and implementing a communications program. Representing the Corporation in its interface with Government, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders. Collaborating closely and rigorously exchanging information with the Chair: Maintaining a close liaison regarding communication strategies with Government and other stakeholders. Reviewing material issues and ensuring the Chair and other Directors are provided with relevant and timely information.


Financial and Administrative Management


Oversee the preparation and management of annual operating and capital budgets, ensuring effective utilization of
financial resources.


Uphold accountability for ethical business practices, transparency, and the protection of sensitive information. Ensure compliance with financial and operational policies while managing risks, including those related to fraud. Direct and monitor the Corporation's activities in a manner that ensures the assets of BC Hydro are safeguarded and
optimized.


Develop and implement operational policies to guide BC Hydro within the limits prescribed by the framework of the
strategic directions adopted by the Board.


Ensure the integrity of BC Hydro's internal control and management systems. Ensure compliance with mandatory reliability standards (MRS), safety, and environmental obligations.


Resource Acquisition and Allocation


Secure resources necessary to achieve BC Hydro's goals within approved financial parameters. Ensure effective planning and management of the organization's workforce to meet current and future needs. Ensure the safe and efficient operation of BC Hydro and ensures compliance with BC Hydro's Corporate Policies, as they
may be amended from time to time by the Board.




Organizational Development


Lead organizational transformation and change management initiatives including technology enhancements/

implementations and other innovations.


Continue to build BC Hydro's reputation in the utilities sector as a leader in equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging. Ensure BC Hydro builds strong, sustainable relationships with Indigenous communities grounded in mutual trust and
respect, and the principles of reconciliation.




Public and Media Relations


As required, act as the spokesperson for BC Hydro in communicating with the media, public and other external
stakeholders.




Business and Economic Environment


Keep abreast of the business and economic climate in which BC Hydro operates. Prepare the organization to meet all
risks and challenges presented by macroeconomics, technological advancements and changes in the market.

What you bring




Advanced degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Public Administration, or a related field. A minimum of 15 years of progressive senior management experience within a large and complex environment. An
equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.


Proven leadership experience at a CEO or senior executive level within a large, complex, regulated and unionized
environment.


Strong understanding of government processes and the ability to navigate policy, priorities, and constraints effectively. Demonstrated expertise in massive infrastructure investment, development and project execution. Experience in developing and implementing strategies in alignment with environmental and sustainability goals. Financial management acumen, with the ability to oversee multi billion-dollar budgets and ensure fiscal accountability. Demonstrated success in leading organizational transformation and change management initiatives. A track record in ensuring all risks are identified and the organization's interests are protected.


Energy and Infrastructure


In-depth knowledge of the energy sector, including renewable energy and sustainability practices. Proven ability to successfully deliver on infrastructure projects and manage system reliability and efficiency now and in the
future.


Strong understanding of environmental regulations and the transition to low-carbon energy systems.


Board of Directors


A demonstrated ability to support and implement the vision of a diverse and highly engaged Board and to set priorities and
move agendas forward within a multi-faceted, multi-partner organization.


Expertise in developing and executing strategic plans in collaboration with the Board and senior leadership.


Government and Stakeholder Relations


Political acumen and experience engaging effectively with government officials and policymakers. Proven ability to build strong relationships with indigenous communities, industry stakeholders, and the public. Exceptional communication skills, including media relations and public speaking.


People Leadership & Relationships


Exceptional leadership skills with a transparent and collaborative communication style. Is a highly visible leader
throughout an organization.


A measurable track record in making a difference as it pertains to equity, diversity and inclusion, with an ability to bring
together a wide range of experiences, perspectives and opinions within an organizational context as well as a decision-

making context.


Proven leadership skills with the ability to build high performing, collaborative teams, and mentor a diverse group of
functional experts. Ideally experienced within a unionized setting.


Ability to attract, develop, and retain top talent, fostering a culture of innovation and accountability. Effective at building and leading teams as well as maintaining positive and productive relationships with the bargaining
unit and staff at all levels.
