We are seeking a detail-oriented
Prepress Coordinator
to join our Scarborough team. In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating prepress activities, ensuring artwork files are production-ready, and acting as the key link between customers, design, and production teams. The Prepress Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring accuracy, consistency, and efficiency in preparing files for folding carton printing and converting.
Responsibilities
Receive, review, and process customer-provided digital files for folding carton projects.
Verify artwork for proper format, resolution, dielines, and color separation.
Make necessary adjustments and corrections to ensure files are optimized for print.
Prepare layouts, impose artwork, and set up carton templates according to production specifications.
Complete Mac Operator work as required.
Make plates and follow quality checks.
Implement and maintain color profiles for accurate reproduction across substrates and equipment.
Coordinate the production of proofs (digital and/or physical) for customer approval.
Ensure accurate creation of printing plates using computer-to-plate (CTP) technology.
Communicate the status of all open prep orders with sales group and CSR.
Work as the main contact for the Prepress Department.
Collaborate with press operators, designers, and production teams to resolve technical issues and fine-tune print results.
Serve as the communication hub for job specifications, relaying requirements and updates across departments.
Perform quality checks on prepress files and printed samples to ensure compliance with customer and company standards.
Identify and resolve issues related to color, registration, and print quality.
Maintain and update graphics log accordingly.
Order inks/ drawdowns and keep up to date inventory.
Demonstrate a deliberate focus on Safety, Quality, Continuous Improvement, and Customer Satisfaction
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Skills Required
High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in Graphic Design, Print Technology, or related field preferred.
Experience in a prepress or print production role, preferably in folding carton or packaging manufacturing.
Proficiency in prepress software and design tools, including Adobe Creative Suite.
Strong knowledge of printing processes, color management, and carton file preparation.
Familiarity with computer-to-plate (CTP) technology and workflow systems.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.
Physical Requirements
Be able to lift objects weighing 15-20 pounds safely and effectively, with the capability to lift more if required
Stand for extended periods
Maintain good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
Sustain physical endurance for a fast-paced work environment
Operate and work near machinery safely
