Welcome to B&T MacFarlane, a premier dealership of the Kubota brand, family-owned and operated since 1957. We are passionate about the customers we serve and support -- from contractors to small business owners, estate owners, and hobby farmers in Ottawa and the surrounding market area. We are a team of 45+ who deliver on quality, efficiency, and teamwork, and we take pride in always going above and beyond the call of duty for our customers.
Position Overview:
As a PDI Technician, you play a critical role in ensuring that every new piece of Kubota equipment leaves our dealership ready for work. This position requires consistency, attention to detail, and a commitment to doing the job right the first time.
If you enjoy solving problems and have a knack for following assembly instructions -- think "adult LEGO" but with electrical, wiring, and hydraulic complexity -- this may be the perfect fit for you. You'll be responsible for interpreting assembly guides, troubleshooting ambiguous steps, and collaborating with your peers to ensure a professional and complete pre-delivery inspection.
Responsibilities:
Uncrate, assemble, and test all new equipment, including (but not limited to) tractors (BX-M8 series), skid steers, TLBs, wheel loaders, mowers, utility vehicles, and corresponding implements.
Work efficiently and accurately to ensure timely completion of PDI work and overall customer satisfaction.
Perform diagnostic checks, including connecting to machines via computer and identifying fault codes.
Communicate effectively with vendors (e.g., Kubota Service Center) to facilitate accurate pre-delivery inspections.
Safely use all tools and equipment, including mechanic's hand tools, air tools, welding, and cutting equipment.
Confirm work quality by testing and inspecting completed assemblies.
Maintain a clean, organized work area and contribute to keeping the entire shop safe and tidy.
Follow all safety and security procedures, reporting hazards, faulty equipment, or unsafe conditions to the Shop Supervisor.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar position within the heavy equipment industry, or graduate of a Heavy Equipment Technician Program (421A).
Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in electrical, hydraulic, or wiring systems.
Forklift Operator Certification (asset).
High school diploma or equivalent.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills -- able to clarify ambiguous instructions and collaborate effectively.
Proficient time management and task organization skills.
Willingness to participate in required training initiatives.
Must supply own tools.
Essential Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly.
Ability to consistently stoop, kneel, bend, or crouch.
Ability to use step stools and ladders to reach high-shelving items.
Ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
Ability to see and respond to dangerous situations.
Ability to wear personal protective gear correctly.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions.
Compensation:
Compensation will be determined based on knowledge, skills, education, and experience.
After a three-month probationary period, employees are eligible for a comprehensive benefits plan that includes life insurance.
All necessary PPE will be provided, including a high-visibility winter coat for onsite work (excluding steel-toed safety boots).
At B&T MacFarlane, no AI is used in the hiring process -- every application is personally reviewed by a member of our team. We encourage you to demonstrate how your mechanical aptitude, consistency, and communication skills align with our culture, as this plays a key role in moving forward to the interview stage.
