Reporting to the Campus Director and under the guidance of the Practical Nursing Coordinator, the Practical Nursing/Health Care Assistant Instructor is responsible for delivering components of the Practical Nursing and Health Care Assistant programs to students.
Responsibilities
Instructs curriculum using pre-authorized or Sprott Shaw materials
Contribute to curriculum maintenance
Administer assessments and grade student work
Attend faculty meetings, in-service training sessions, program and college activities
Supervising students during clinical placements, as needed
Qualifications and Education
Practical Nursing (PN) Instructor
Current, active and unrestricted practicing license as an LPN, NP, RN or RPN with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives. (BCCNM)
Adult Instruction Certification (to be completed within two [2] years of the hire date)
Minimum of three (3) years of recent (within the last 5 years) full-time nursing experience (equivalent to full-time hours per year where full-time hours are 1400 per year)
Health Care Assistant (HCA) Instructor
Current unrestricted (i.e., no conditions on license or provisional registration) full registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse, Registered Nurse, or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM); and
Demonstrated ability to teach adult learners (i.e., completion of Provincial Instructor Diploma or equivalent education, or previous teaching experience with satisfactory references, positive performance evaluations, and student course evaluations)
Two (2) or more years of full-time Canadian nursing experience (1 year = 1400 hours) with relevant knowledge of the Canadian health care system, the roles and responsibilities of healthcare team members, and current policies and procedures within residential and community care settings.
Evidence of completion of the Health Care Assistant Practice in BC course available on LearningHub to be completed as part of orientation/on-boarding.
Completion of course work in Indigenous cultural safety and humility (to be completed within first 3 months of hire)
Nursing work experience to include:
Experience working with older adults with complex health needs; and
Experience or orientation (i.e., shadow shifts) in home support and multi-level/complex care.

Compensation Range
Registered Nurses: $42.00-$46.00 per hour
Licensed Practical Nurses: $31.00-$36.00 per hour
Most new instructors will be placed in the starting range. In some circumstances, new employees may be eligible for compensation beyond the starting point. Factors influencing salary decisions include qualifications and years of experience in similar roles
