Position Summary
As a Powerline Technician, you will be part of a team responsible for constructing overhead and underground electrical power distribution systems. This role is vital to ensuring safe and reliable power delivery to communities and businesses. This position encompasses working within the Bonnyville and Cold Lake area as well as out of town, including remote areas.
Key Responsibilities
Conscientious and able to work in safety sensitive environments and perform tasks within guidelines and procedures.
Install overhead and underground electrical distribution systems.
Perform hot line work.
Install street lighting systems.
Terminate primary underground cables and street lights as required.
Work with various types of heavy equipment including aerial booms, diggers (RDB), bucket trucks, trackhoes, nodwells and skid steers.
Other duties as required.
Qualifications
Interprovincial Power Lineman certification.
Valid Alberta driver's license or equivalent (preference of Class 3 with Q), with a clean driver's abstract.
Strength, stamina and the use of proper lifting techniques required to work with equipment weighing in excess of 25 kilograms.
Good physical coordination and manual dexterity.
Mechanical ability.
The ability to work at heights.
The ability to work in confined spaces.
The ability to work as a member of a team and adapt to changing tasks and locations.
Work Environment
Working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Travel to various work sites required.
Frequent strenuous work including frequent heavy lifting, carrying and reaching.
Getting to power lines requires climbing poles or towers, working from a bucket attached to an aerial lift boom, and entering underground vaults.
After hours response calls may be required.
