Sector Overview Powertech\xe2\x80\x99s Power Systems Software team meets the need for grid security with a comprehensive suite of power system analysis tools, and with capabilities of examining and optimizing power system performance. Powertech\xe2\x80\x99s flagship software package, DSATools\xe2\x84\xa2, incorporates leading-edge technologies for both off-line (system planning) and on-line (near-real-time operation) dynamic security assessment of large complex power systems. To learn more about DSATools information visit http://www.dsatools.com Role Overview Powertech has an exciting and challenging opportunity for Power System Consulting Engineers to join a team of professionals based at Powertech Labs in Surrey, B.C or remotely (within Canada). The Power System Consulting Engineer will primarily be involved in both power system analysis software development (including software feature as well as model development). The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to be involved with power systems studies/consulting projects. Key Responsibilities
  • Development and implementation of computational methods, software features, and models for use in various power systems simulation platforms
  • Feature design, coding, testing, and documentation of software
  • Customer support and software product maintenance
  • Performing power system studies ranging from dynamic model validation, transmission planning and operation, load and generation interconnection, integration of renewables, compliance studies, etc.
  • Assistance in marketing and delivery of software, software projects and consulting projects
  • Participation in research and development efforts
  • Visiting client\xe2\x80\x99s facilities for commissioning, training, or support
Qualifications The successful applicant will have a Master\xe2\x80\x99s or PhD in Electrical Engineering specializing in power systems from a recognized post-secondary institution and is eligible to register as a professional engineer in Canada and at least 4 years of experience as a Studies Engineer, Consulting Engineer or Software Engineer in a similar position or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Knowledge of power systems analysis, modeling techniques, and computational algorithms.
  • Knowledge of protection and control systems of renewable and conventional generation, substations and power systems and experience in the application or development of commercial software would be an asset
  • General understanding of reliability standards and regulations related to power system operation, protection, grid voltage and frequency controls
  • Proficient in use of power system simulation software packages
  • Experienced with programming in one or more of the following: C/C++, FORTRAN, Visual Basic, Java, Python, and Matlab

Job Status: Full-Time Regular Note: Candidates with less qualifications and experience may be considered for a P1 Engineer role. Candidates with more qualifications and experience may be considered for experienced Engineer role.
