Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) is inviting applications for casual positions of Power Skating Instructor in the Recreation Programming division of Parks & Recreation. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under the direction of the Skating Head Coach, provide instruction of the weekly Power skating program following the premade lesson plans.
  • Responsible for greeting participants, leading activities, ensuring the safety and enjoyment of participants.
  • To evaluate participants using a standardized assessment tool.
  • To maintain excellent customer service communication with instructors, parents and participants.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Conditions of Employment: Strong Skating ability and understanding of skating techniques
  • Power skating is a more technical program, so skating ability and techniques must be high.
  • Experience working or volunteering with children and youth in a recreational setting (if applicable)
  • First Aid Certification.
Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.

Please note - Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge. Candidates, who are selected for testing, may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employer\'s discretion. Interviews, testing, and in-person recruitment activities are being conducted in adherence with current COVID-19 Public Health protocols.

WORK STATUS: Casual/Seasonal - October -March

HOURS OF WORK: Casual. Successful applicants are able to work at multiple locations if they choose. Shifts are as follows.

Halifax Forum: Thursdays 7:30-8:30

SALARY: Non-Union, $17.50 per hour

WORK LOCATION: Halifax Forum.
