Power Plant Operator Part Time

Job Description

The goal of the Power Plant Operator is to operate and manage customer energy assets in accordance to Toromont Energy best practices and contractual agreements and to balance landfill field and perform minor maintenance as per customer's contractual agreement.


This is a part-time position for weekend and vacation coverage. This position will consist of 16 hours a week, the regular work days are Saturday and Sunday - On-call required

In a typical day, YOU will:




Monitor, adjusts load settings, start/ stop engine and plant as required. inspections and daily operation of equipment. Remove equipment from service if operational data or physical condition requires it. Contact vendors repaired to repair equipment or to attain quotes. Liaise with Customers for prompt repairs of their assets. Report any unsafe conditions or hazards to Operations Manager. Recommend equipment repairs to supervisor or Operations Manager based on inspections and daily operation of equipment.

Must-haves for this role:




Exceptional administration and leadership skills Comprehensive technical knowledge and experience related to electric power generation Systems including mechanical, electrical, thermal and chemical technical disciplines Comprehensive knowledge of SCADA and PLC based power plant control systems Normally 5 - 10 years of related industry experience in thermal energy, reciprocating engine and co-generation power plants Ability to operate and succeed with minimum supervision A comprehensive knowledge of Caterpillar 3500 series generator sets an asset A valid Truck and Coach Technician License (310T) or equivalent would be an asset Understanding of diesel and gas engines, power fundamentals and electrical controls Ability to read and understand prints, drawings and technical bulletins Customer centric with excellent interpersonal and communication skills Self-motivated team player with solid business acumen and high integrity A valid Ontario Driver's License with a clean Driver's Abstract Reliable / safety means of transport Knowledge of Power plant and landfill operations would be an asset Knowledge of Caterpillar power generation equipment would be an asset Willing and able to work flexible hours in support of business needs
