Canadian Steam has an opportunity for a 4th class Junior Power Engineer in Abbotsford BC. In this role, you will be responsible for daily operation of a 300 HP boiler (3rd Class Plant), preventative maintenance of equipment and machinery, and railcar offloading. During heating shifts, employees will be expected to work on maintenance and projects in addition to boiler operating.
There will also be occasions where an employee will be called to assist on boiler annual inspections, boiler installations, boiler repairs, out-of-town boiler rental jobs, as well as the set-up and takedown of rental boilers in a variety of steam plants.
This role is ideal for an ambitious power engineer that wants to obtain a 3rd Class Power Engineering Ticket and who requires operating time as well as some downtime at work to study. This person must be willing and able to work both day and night shifts, and must have a strong work ethic and strong sense of curiosity. Must be physically fit.
Summary of Essential Job Functions:
During Asphalt Season
Operate 300 HP steam boiler and connect steam hoses to rail cars
Connect mobile asphalt loading rack to railcars and transload product into trucks
Follow daily, weekly, and monthly checklist of routine tasks that must be completed at the steam plant
Undertake preventative maintenance and maintain a clean working space
Use Excel for basic data input
Assist service technicians on annual inspections, boiler repairs, and boiler installations
During Non-Asphalt Season
Operate 50-300 HP steam boilers on out of town jobs
Fabricate portable boiler packages (piping, controls, electrical, pumps, metal work, welding)
Assist at company shop in Surrey on portable boiler maintenance, boiler repairs, and annual inspections
Required Qualifications:
4th Class Power Engineers Certification
Willing to work shift-work and work alone
Willing to perform occasional work out of town
Ability to lift 40 lb
Valid Driver's License
Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum of 2 years related experience in the operation of physical plant systems
Excellent organizational, problem-solving and communication skills
Independent and dependable self-starter
Pipe-fitting ability
Job Type: Full-time - Minimum 160 hours regular-hours-equivalent of work over 4 week period @ $34/hour.
Shift schedule: Schedule does change depending on trucking and rail switches, but will generally be three days. Two 12-hour shifts (4 hours overtime each shift), and one 8 hour shift. Hours will be topped up to a minimum 160 hours (regular-hours-equivalent when overtime is worked) over 4 weeks through shop work at company fabrication and maintenance shop in Surrey or Abbotsford, or through other service and boiler operation work.
