Post-Graduate Sessional Instructor
Hourly Rate: Starting at $73.52 per hour depending on qualifications Location: Pembina Campus and/or remotely, as required
Post - Graduate Instructors will possess the skills necessary to assist students in becoming successful learners. These skills include but are not limited to; the knowledge of respective disciplines, the use of learning technologies, including learning management systems, the creation of an effective learning environments, including on-line delivery, interpersonal skills, and the knowledge of how adults learn.

GS-095:
Supply Chain Management for the Public Sector



May 1st-June 16th, 2023


Once per week: 6:00pm-9:00pm


The goal of this course is to develop the abilities of students to become more acquainted with the issues and strategy of public sector supply chain management. This course is supported by a variety of articles on public sector procurement and SCM, along with some website references. In teams, candidates will research a particular public sector organization of their choosing. The focus will be on identification of unique supply chain challenges and opportunities for performance improvement.

Introduction to Human Resource Management


May 1st- August 11th, 2023


Once per week: 6:00pm-9:00pm



This course introduces students to the basic human resource functions and the role of HR within an organization. Topics covered include: recruitment and selection, compensation and benefits, retention and motivation, and working with labour unions.




GS-050:
Operations and Process Management



May 1st- August 11th, 2023


Once per week: 6:00pm-9:00pm



The aim of this course is to introduce the fundamental concepts of operations management from a general management perspective. Tactical and strategic operations are addressed. Operations design and management are examined from the perspective of achieving the organization\xe2\x80\x99s goals.

Budgeting and Financial Management



May 1st- August 11th, 2023


Once per week: 6:00pm-9:00pm



This course allows participants to explore the complexities of planning, preparing and monitoring operational and capital budgets to support the strategic plan of an organization. Developing awareness of the principles of financial decision-making is explored as well. Topics include: financial goal setting, budgeting, tax planning, cash management, investment and insurance considerations.




PG-010:
Dynamic Communication Skills



May 1st- August 11th, 2023


Once per week: 6:00pm-9:00pm



This course focuses on the communication skills that are necessary to be successful in a professional workplace environment. Developing effective speaking and listening skills are an integral part of the course. Students are also introduced to effective strategies for creating and delivering effective presentations to a variety of audiences for various purposes.

Writing and Grammar for Business



May 1st- August 11th, 2023


Once per week: 6:00pm-9:00pm



In this course the emphasis will be placed on improving and perfecting written communication for business purposes (e-mails, memos, letters, reports, public relations messaging, and other documents). The focus is on providing students with the knowledge and skills to make their writing clear, effective, and grammatically correct. Students will also have the opportunity to develop effective communication for various professional scenarios and situations, including making business presentations.

Competitive Bidding and Contract Management



June 26th-August 11th, 2023


Once per week: 6:00pm-9:00pm



This course looks at the conditions for successful competitive bidding and the elements of the bidding process, including RFPs and RFQs. Electronic tendering is also addressed. Course content includes examining types of contracts and contract law. Students also gain an understanding of writing contract terms and how to manage a contract from performance review to dispute resolution and termination.

Software Skills: Email and Scheduling



June 26th-August 11th, 2023


Once per week: 6:00pm-9:00pm



This course will familiarize students with Microsoft (MS) Outlook and associated functions. Students will develop organizational habits and efficient practices to properly manage schedules. Topics include, time management, meeting arrangements and records management. This course will also cover email etiquette and professionalism.

Software Skills: Word Processing



September 6th-October 20th, 2023


Once per week: 6:00pm-9:00pm



Students will familiarize themselves with Microsoft (MS) Word and develop skills to effectively utilize Windows navigational tool and files. This course focuses on working proficiently with MS Word processing features to develop professional documents.

SCM for Services, Capital Goods, and Major Projects


September 6th-October 20th, 2023


Once per week: 6:00pm-9:00pm



The goal of this course is to develop the abilities of students to identify the issues about and develop strategies for service sector supply chain management and large projects supply chain management. This course is supported by a variety of articles on services, large projects and sustainability in procurement.

Visual Analytics for Decision Making



September 6th-December 15th, 2023


Once per week: 6:00pm-9:00pm



Visual Analytics for Decision-Making introduces students to the transformative power of using data to tell a story. Students are shown how to creatively put data in an effective, visual format to help make complex concepts accessible to assist stakeholders in making informed, evidence-based decisions. Examples of visual analytics include charts, tables, info graphics and another other form of visual representation.

Recruitment and Selection


September 6th-December 15th, 2023


Once per week: 6:00pm-9:00pm



This course takes students through the staffing function of HR management, addressing the topics of job analysis; recruitment; selection process and interviews; orientation, probation and assessment; employee engagement; as well as career, retirement and succession planning.

Principles of Economics



September 6th-December 15th, 2023


Once per week: 6:00pm-9:00pm



Learners will understand, discuss, and apply the key concepts and principles of micro and macroeconomics in the context of the global economic environment and the Canadian economy. Links between economic principles and business fundamentals are emphasized and students will be able to apply abstract economic theory to real-world business situations.

Skills for Effective Negotiation



October 30th-December 15th, 2023


Once per week: 6:00pm-9:00pm



This course focuses on issues in negotiation, including assessing personal negotiating skills and those of other parties, differentiating between distributive and integrative negotiation; establishing trust and building relationships; and power, persuasion and ethics. Skills for Effective Negotiation give students the opportunities to develop a personal negotiation style through role-playing simulations.

Software Skills: Excel



October 30th- December 15th, 2023


Twice per week: 6:00pm-9:00pm



Students will familiarize themselves with Microsoft (MS) Excel and learn to design, create, modify and present professional-looking spreadsheets for use in today\xe2\x80\x99s workplace. Students will use formulas and built-in functions to solve mathematical problems, perform calculations, and filter and format data.



  • Courses will be offered in a hybrid delivery model and dates are subject to change. Instructors are required to teach a portion of the course on-campus.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Planning and Preparation
  • Plan/adopt, implement, and continually review curriculum to ensure its appropriateness and currency.
  • Create, deliver, and refine courses in a Learning Management System
  • Organize classroom activities and processes (for both in-person and remote delivery) for the purpose of enhancing learning activities of students in both individual and group settings.
  • Develop and maintain accurate, informative and relevant student and administrative records.
  • Utilize materials and resources effectively in order to maximize benefits to students and to the Institution.
Classroom Environment
  • Create a positive learning environment by consistently demonstrating preparedness for class, by motivating students to accomplish educational and personal goals and by providing the opportunity to receive and act on student feedback.
  • Manage student behaviour and document relevant student concerns.
Instruction
  • Utilize appropriate and creative instructional methods (both in-person and on-line) to accommodate the learning styles of individual students.
  • Provide appropriate direction regarding issues concerning students educational goals and individual growth.
  • Use questioning and discussion techniques during instruction.
  • Engage students in learning.
  • Demonstrate the use of assessment and evaluation techniques.
Interpersonal Relationships
  • Communicate with students in a fair and consistent manner and is approachable.

  • Serve as an ambassador of MITT and contributes ideas to the overall goals, objectives and activities of MITT
  • Participate as an active team member by sharing in program specific activities, as well as MITT wide

Required Q
ualifications and Experience: A combination of related education and experience may be considered.
  • Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in business or a relevant discipline
  • Minimum of five (5) or more years of relevant work experience discipline relevant to the course subject matter
  • Two or more years of experience teaching adults
  • Additional requirements may be identified for partnership courses or specializations
  • Excellent technical skills related to the use of technology in the classroom
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with others and exercise good judgment
  • Outstanding leadership skills and the ability to develop and build both internal and external partnerships
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to plan and work proactively
  • Ability to deal effectively in stressful situations where tact and diplomacy are needed
  • Ability to take initiative and work proactively
  • Ability to work well as a team member, demonstrating collaboration, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to be flexible, adaptable, and embrace change

Preferred
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Professional Certifications in the relevant discipline or subject area
  • Education degree
  • Adult Education certificate or diploma
  • Experience using D2L\xe2\x80\x99s BrightSpace (MITT - Learning Management System)
  • Experience using remote delivery tools such as Microsoft Teams or Zoom
