Position Summary
A postdoctoral fellowship is available in the laboratories of Dr. Trevor Pugh, PhD, FACMG and Dr. Suzanne Trudel MD at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre / University Health Network in Toronto, Canada. Located in the MaRS Centre in the heart of the downtown Discovery District, we are an integral component of multiple translational genomics projects and platforms including the , , . This position will support fellows wishing to lead the collaborative, clinically-oriented myeloma genome analysis projects.
This position is an opportunity for scientifically creative, computationally-inclined individuals with a strong cancer biology background to join our team focused on developing blood-based precision medicine approaches for Multiple Myeloma (MM). This project leverages whole-genome sequencing (WGS) of cell-free DNA (cfDNA) to enable non-invasive detection, molecular characterization, and longitudinal monitoring of MM. The successful candidate will lead efforts in integrating cfDNA WGS data with clinical and bone marrow biopsy data, with the goal of reconstructing the MM genome, identifying actionable mutations, and developing novel biomarkers for minimal residual disease (MRD) and treatment resistance. This position offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge sequencing technologies, including 200X cfWGS, and innovative computational tools in a translational research environment.
Candidates must have a PhD or MD with specialization in genetics, molecular biology, bioinformatics, or computer science as well as hands-on experience in the use of Unix/Linux, R/Matlab, and statistical approaches to analyze and visualize genome-scale data sets. Preferred but not required are expertise in Python and Java programming, web and database development, industry software development practices (version control, etc.), and expertise using tools for analyzing next-generation sequencing data such as the Genome Analysis Toolkit, the Picard suite of tools, and mutation detection algorithms. Candidates must be highly motivated, possess excellent organizational, problem-solving and communication skills (both verbal and written), and should have prior publications in cancer, genomics, immunology, and/or biomedical journals.
Applicants should apply with a curriculum vitae and a cover letter in PDF format describing specific disease areas of interest to you, how your past experience may complement training in computational cancer genomics, and your future career goals. Applicants will be expected to apply for UHN's initiative to support this opportunity. A link to an active github repository showing past work would be viewed favourably.
