We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow who will work on a CIHR-funded project on the Elimination of Hepatitis B (HBV) in Canada with a team of investigators in Quebec, Ontario, British Columbia. The postdoctoral fellow will use linked administrative datasets to characterize the health burden of HBV and define the steps along the HBV care cascade in different groups at risk including immigrants, pregnant women and intravenous drug users. Advanced epidemiologic methods will be used.
In this role, you won't just analyze data, you will lead complex, high-impact quantitative research using some of the most comprehensive health datasets in Canada, develop your own independent research agenda, and collaborate with top experts across disciplines to drive evidence into action. You will also have the opportunity and support to design and lead your own research projects aligned with HBV elimination goals, contributing to both science and policy change. The fellow will work under the supervision of Dr. Christina Greenaway, MD, MSc at the Center for Clinical Epidemiology, at the LDI. This opportunity is a 1-year, full-time fellowship, with a possibility to renew for 1-2 additional years.
What you'll do
Lead quantitative analyses of large, linked administrative health datasets in Quebec to map the HBV care cascade and evaluate health-related outcomes to inform policy and program planning.
Develop and test innovative methodological approaches to address research questions in health services and outcomes research.
Interpret, synthesize, and disseminate results through peer-reviewed publications, policy briefs, and presentations at scientific and stakeholder meetings.
Initiate and lead independent research projects aligned with the HBV program, with mentorship from the PI and collaborators.
Contribute to grant applications, research planning, and the training/mentorship of graduate students.
Basic qualifications
A PhD, MD/MSc or equivalent in epidemiology, biostatistics or public health is required. Applicants without a graduate degree in one of these fields will not be considered.
Strong quantitative skills in epidemiology, and experience with statistical software such as SAS, R, and demonstrated ability to design and implement complex analyses is required.
An excellent academic record and established track record of original publications in peer reviewed journals is required.
Excellent written and oral communication skills. Fluency in English (verbal and written) is required
Ability to work independently, as well as part of a large multidisciplinary teams of collaborators will be necessary.
Preferred qualifications
Prior experience with health administrative databases and/or cohort analyses will be prioritized.
Substantive knowledge of hepatitis B, viral hepatitis or infectious diseases is desirable.
Fluency in French is desirable.

The position is based in the Center for Clinical Epidemiology, at the Lady Davis Research Institute (LDI) at the Jewish General Hospital at McGill (http://www.ladydavis.ca/en/researchers). Our interdisciplinary, Pan-Canadian study brings together experts in viral hepatitis, migration, epidemiology, linkage and analysis of administrative datasets, decision analysis, economic modeling, and biostatistics. This position provides opportunities for collaborative work with epidemiologists, statisticians, senior scientists and physicians at the LDI, the Institute of Clinical and Evaluative Sciences (ICES) in Ontario, and at the BC Centers for Disease Control in British Columbia.
