This position is part of the Post Doctoral Fellows Association and has an initial appointment of 1 year with the possibility of extension.
This position has a comprehensive .
Location - This role is in-person at North Campus Edmonton.
This position is only suitable to the individual with a strong interest, and some experience (clinical and/or research) working with older adults and the staff who care for them in residential LTC / nursing home settings. It is ideal for the individual who wants to lay a strong foundation in applied research in these areas and develop a program of research.
Reporting to Dr. Carole Estabrooks, Scientific Director this postdoctoral fellow's focus will be on developing and completing a series of related projects examining the influence of organization context (work environment) on various staff and resident outcomes, as well as, on selected performance measures (primary focus). The research will include but not be limited to repeated cross-sectional analyses of surveys of different staff groups, linkages to other data sets (internal and external). It may also include work on new studies and mixed methods research.
The work will include: (1) advanced literature syntheses, (2) conceptualizing a project, (3) using appropriate statistical techniques for nested data structures, repeated cross sectional analysis, and intervention evaluation, and (4) incorporation of qualitative methods either on existing data or new data. Basic requirements include: (1) the ability to conceptualize, plan and execute a project, and (2) the ability to conceptualize novel approaches.
Responsibilities:
The main responsibilities of the Postdoctoral Fellow are carried out in consultation with the Scientific Director and include:

  • Developing research protocols including mastery of the existing research literature
  • Coordinating and executing research project protocols and timelines.
  • Assisting with the ongoing growth and development of the projects.
  • Writing research grant proposals to secure funding for additional projects under supervision.
  • Preparing and submitting manuscripts, conference abstracts and presentations.
  • Mentoring other trainees
Qualifications:
  • PhD (obtained in the last 5 years) in a health discipline, other things being equal a nursing background will be preferred
  • Evidence of strong writing and communication skills
  • A strong peer-reviewed publication record
  • Strong knowledge and experience in statistical methods
  • Strong knowledge and experience in qualitative methods
  • Must have an understanding and appreciation of health and social care settings in which older adults reside (e.g., LTC homes)
  • Possesses or is willing to develop depth in areas relating to vulnerable populations, e.g., a migrant workforce, intersectionality, dementia, care processes
  • Ability to work independently as well as contribute to team development
  • A strong GPA from the PhD program
