Position Summary




The Behavioural Epidemiology Lab within the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation at the University of Alberta will be the new coordinating centre for the International Study of Movement Beahviours in the Early Years (SUNRISE) The SUNRISE study brings together researchers from low-, middle-, and high-income countries across the globe, to examine the associations of physical activity, sedentary behaviour and sleep with health and development in children 3-4 years of age, and to examine potential correlates. To date, 66 countries (44 from low and middle income countries) have been involved in the SUNRISE study.


The candidate will work with Dr. Valerie Carson, incoming Primary Investigator of the SUNRISE study, and the SUNRISE Leadership Group on the data management, analysis, and knowledge translation of the SUNRISE study. The candidate will also provide support for the coordination of the study and have the opportunity to mentor undergraduate and graduate students.


Dr. Carson will work with the candidate to apply for scholarships as one possible avenue to extend the position beyond 2 years.

Duties



Help coordinate the SUNRISE Study. Manage and clean SUNRISE data. Analyze data and lead abstracts for conference presentations and manuscripts for publication. Mentor undergraduate and graduate students.

Minimum Qualifications



A PhD in a health-related field (e.g., kinesiology, physical education, public health, pediatrics, psychology). Strong background in quantitative research as well as competency in using the quantitative analysis software R. Self-directed with the ability to work independently while achieving specific goals within specific timelines. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong attention to detail and strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Working knowledge of typical office-related software such as Microsoft Office Suite. Strong knowledge base in movement behaviours.

Preferred Qualifications



Previous experience with SUNRISE study. Knowledge base of children in the early years. Knowledge base in compositional data analysis.
