The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Alberta is one of Canada's leading academic health centres for pediatric specialty and subspecialty education and research. Working closely with the Stollery Children's Hospital and community pediatrics in Northern Alberta, we are committed to meeting the unique needs of our community and providing exceptional care for infants, children, youth, and families. The CHILD Cohort Study is a national, multidisciplinary, longitudinal, population-based birth-cohort study. This study examines gene-environment factors in relation to children's health and development, specifically in relation to allergy and asthma. The study was developed in response to the RFA from CIHR in 2005, entitled "Indoor Air Exposures, Genes, and Gene-Environment Interactions in the Etiology of Asthma and Allergy in Early Childhood."

Position Summary




Reporting to Dr. Piushkumar Mandhane, the Postdoctoral Fellow will analyze data from the CHILD Cohort Study and contribute to the planning and execution of the CHILD 16-year visit. This is a full-time, one-year position, with the possibility of renewal (pending funding availability).

Duties



Plan research activities, determine appropriate research methodologies and prepare protocols. Data analysis includes but not limited to data extraction Develop presentations to stakeholders, including local and international scientific meetings, hospital collaborators, and faculty supervisors. Prepare manuscripts for peer review publication. Work closely with families and children in a clinic setting, research and clinic staff in a team-oriented research model.

Qualifications



PhD in public health sciences, nursing, epidemiology or any other health service discipline Excellent written and oral communication skills in English Ability to work well in team setting Good organization skills Knowledge of STATA is an asset
