Job Description


The Division of Neurosurgery, St Michael\xe2\x80\x99s Hospital at University of Toronto is seeking highly motivated, creative postdoctoral fellow to apply novel techniques in translational bioinformatics and data analytics.

Ideal candidate should have a Ph.D or equivalent in either Health Data Sciences, Statistics, Computer Sciences, Epidemiology or related subjects. User-level programing in a variety of environments (e.g. R, Python, etc) is a plus. Good command of spoken and written English essential. Knowledge of GPU programing and experience handling large datasets and time-series data is preferred. Background in biology and/or medicine is a plus but not essential. Evidence of prior peer-reviewed publication and grant preparation is an advantage.

Successful candidate will be working with an energetic team of interdisciplinary researchers consisting of computer scientists, statisticians and medical doctors. This is a stimulating work environment with plenty of opportunities to learn new skills and establish strong track record in the emerging field of health informatics.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Upon receipt of appropriate training, the Postdoctoral fellow will:

  • Analyze population scale and other data sets
  • Apply/modify/develop data analytic pipelines
  • Prepare/present/publish manuscripts and progress reports;
  • Collect, store and transfer study data in accordance with REB requirements;
  • Supervise students;
  • Participate in the initiation of new research and grant writing.
Expectations

The Fellow will be expected to complete the following:
  • Take part in and oversee all aspects of at least 2 research studies, including the RCL IMPACT study
  • Co-author and submit at least 4 manuscripts per year
  • Develop and submit at least 2 grant proposals per year
  • Submit Research Ethics Board applications
  • Supervise students at all stages, graduate and undergraduate students
  • Present research findings at national and international scientific meetings
Eligibility

To be considered for the position, candidates must have the following:
  • A PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in computer science, epidemiology, biostatistics, economics, health and/or medical sciences, or other related fields
  • Completion of PhD within 6 years at the time of application
  • A strong quantitative analysis background. Quantitative or economic analysis expertise will also be desirable.
  • Advanced research experience, especially with data analysis, health economics, statistical methods
  • Strong writing skills
  • A keen motivation to make a difference and to achieve goals.
