: The Positive Behaviour Support Specialist provides direct, hands-on support to individuals with behavioural challenges in home and community settings. This position develops, implements, and maintains behavioural support strategies, while actively engaging with individuals to promote independence, skill development, and community participation. The Specialist also trains and coaches caregivers and support staff through in-person modeling and guidance, ensuring consistency of approach and positive outcomes.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provide direct behavioural intervention and support to individuals, using evidence-based strategies.
2. Identify, assess, and monitor individuals' needs in collaboration with caregivers and other service providers.
3. Develop, implement, and maintain individualized behaviour support strategies that encourage participation in daily and community life.
4. Review Individualized Service Plan (ISP) goals, ensuring they are measurable, achievable, and aligned with each individual's strengths, needs, and personal aspirations. Provide training to caregivers and support workers on implementation and documentation.
5. Apply behavioural analysis techniques and psychological principles to address learning, communication, and adaptive skill development.
6. Identify crisis situations and provide immediate intervention, de-escalation, and follow-up support as needed.
7. Offer hands-on coaching and modeling of behavioural strategies for caregivers and staff.
8. Document support activities, behavioural data, and progress notes; prepare reports as required.
9. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of behavioural research and best practices, sharing relevant strategies with the team.
10. Uphold the values, policies, and procedures of VDACL; act as a positive role model for individuals, families, and colleagues.
11. May be required to work flexible hours, travel in the community, and participate in on-call support for emergencies and crisis intervention.
12. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Education, Training, and Experience
1. Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences, Psychology, or Social Work (Additional education and certification in Positive Behaviour Support, Behaviour Analysis, Counselling, etc. preferred).
2. Two (2) years of recent, related direct support experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
3. Valid B.C. Class 5 Driver's License and current Driver's Abstract and access to personal vehicle for business related purposes.
4. Valid First Aid Certificate Level 1
5. Satisfactory Criminal Records Check
6. Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI, Mandt, or equivalent).
