JOB DESCRIPTION





Reporting to the Senior Portfolio Manager, External Equities, the Portfolio Manager is responsible for the effective management of designated portfolios. The Portfolio Manager conducts due diligence, evaluates portfolio positions, reviews detailed transactions, reconciles and measures investment returns. The Portfolio Manager provides analysis, commentaries and recommendations to the team and CIO. The Portfolio Manager also performs portfolio analytics and supports investment research.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES




1. Monitors activities within the asset class to determine the performance and the variability of portfolio returns;


2. Performs portfolio evaluation and analysis by using quantitative modeling techniques, sensitivity analysis, attribution analysis, cash flow forecasting and valuation;


3. Obtains reviews and analyzes regular reporting from asset managers and advisors; works with Pension Investment Operations staff as well as asset fund managers to reconcile and measure portfolio returns against the Plan's benchmarks and third party performance measurement firm's results;


4. Creates, maintains and evaluates investment portfolios using databases, benchmark indices, track record and applicable investment evaluation methodologies. Monitors significant events such as changes in market conditions/government regulations/firm personnel, holdings etc. in the portfolios and develops risk assessments. Provides analysis, commentaries and recommendations to the team.


5. Conducts regular reviews of portfolio transactions to ensure accuracy. Reviews individual investments on a monthly basis and prepares periodic consolidated portfolio reports on earnings and performance;


6. Prepares pension plan investment portfolios' reports and presentations for the team, various pension committees, Senior Management and the Vice President, Pension Fund and Chief Investment Officer, as required. Attends and presents at certain committee meetings, as required;


7. Utilizes industry specific computer software and evaluation models, where applicable;


8. Keeps abreast of capital market conditions and conducts investment research. Meets with current and potential investment managers for research and monitoring purposes. Remains current with respect to opportunities, ideas and trends pertaining to pension investments; If applicable, prepares business case / recommendation of potential investment opportunities for approval;


9. Maintains a network of internal and external contacts to regularly benchmark and remain current on future trends and developments related to government standards, industry practices, legislation, guidelines, new technologies, and programs related to investment management.

QUALIFICATIONS



Education



University degree in Business or Finance plus working toward at least one or more of: CFA or MBA

Experience



3-5 years experience working within the pension or investment fields

Other Candidate Requirements



Familiar with systems such SimCorp, FactSet, Style Analytics, eVestment, Bloomberg and Barra or similar tools, Advanced knowledge of Excel spreadsheets
