To reduce the impacts of suicide in Canada, the Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC) is leading a "Made in Canada" Community-Based Suicide Prevention Demonstration Project. The MHCC is working with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and Eastern Health to build upon community expertise to research, implement and test, proven suicide prevention interventions. This is a multi-site project with an evaluation component that is supported by a Principal Investigator. The project site for this province is the Burin region.Job Demands
Primarily reporting to the Manager of Applied Health Research and Evaluation, with local reporting responsibility to the Manager of Mental Health Addictions Community, the incumbent will work to conduct the evaluation component of the Roots of Hope project using an implementation science approach.The Research Analyst for Roots of Hope will liaise with research personnel at other study sites and the Principal Investigator to collect relevant data, participate in a Community of Practice, develop and broker relationships with stakeholders, facilitate knowledge exchange activities, assist with data verification and quality control, ensure data integrity and consistency; and perform analysis and interpretation of results for the project. This position will be based in St. John\'s but will closely liaise with the Community Suicide Prevention Coordinator who is based in the Burin region. Regular travel to the Burin region will be required as well as infrequent travel outside the province for Community of Practice meetings with the other study sites.Job QualificationsEducation
Completion of a Master\'s degree in clinical epidemiology, community health, health policy, psychology or a related discipline is required.Experience
Experience in research and evaluation, data management and prevention programs in community settings.
Experience with quantitative methods and statistical analysisCompetencies (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
Knowledge of an implementation science approach and traditional evaluation approaches in community settings.
Understanding of context and ability to attend to unforeseen circumstances including culture and stakeholders.
Management skills and experience in planning and evaluating prevention projects.
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to analyze and interpret quantitative and qualitative data and be skilled in the analysis and interpretation of data using SPSS.
Demonstrated individual leadership skills and autonomous critical thinking ability.
Demonstrated time management skills as well as experience prioritizing and working in dynamic and collaborative environments.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point.
Demonstrated interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Effective research and analytical thinking skills.
