What\xe2\x80\x99s this position about?
The Policy Manager is responsible for managing and leading YESAB\xe2\x80\x99s Policy Unit in developing YESAB policies and procedures. The Policy Manager carries a policy portfolio, and as such also manages specific policy initiatives. This position is responsible for engaging project proponents, stakeholder groups, First Nations, and the public in the development of policies and procedures, and for communicating policies and procedures to YESAB staff. The Policy Manager is a member of the Senior Management Team and contributes to the development of corporate strategies and programs.
What will I be doing?
You will be contributing to the enthusiastic and lively work culture of YESAB and will be located in the Whitehorse Head Office. The position directly impacts the work of all staff through the development of effective policies, guidelines, and procedures.
The Policy Manager is responsible for:
  • Leading and directing the development and evaluation of policies and procedures
  • Management and supervision of Policy Unit staff, consultant teams/contractors, and partnerships related to the ongoing development and advancement of YESAB policies and procedures.
  • Advising and supporting senior managers and Executive Director in the development of unit specific and corporate strategic action plans.
  • Coordinating the planning, initiation, and operation of public engagement regarding YESAB policies, processes and procedures.
  • The communication of changes to YESAB policies to relevant parties outside of YESAB.
What knowledge, skills and abilities do I need for this role?
Having a degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Public Administration, Governance, Public Relations, Environmental Science, Social Science, or similar degree, and strong knowledge of policy development and evaluation methods and techniques is required.
Strong conceptualization and analytical skills, research and writing skills, as well as effective management and leadership skills will contribute to the success of this position. Experience in engaging indigenous group representatives, government representatives, stakeholder groups, and members of the public is a strong preference to excel and support the collective YESAB team.
