About Our Opportunity

We\xe2\x80\x99re hiring for a Policy Analyst supporting our new Homelessness Program. Are you seeking your next opportunity where you can make a big impact in this sector?

In this critical role you will directly impact the strategic direction and decision making of the department by coordinating strategic and corporate initiatives, such as business planning, accountability reporting and policy analysis. This role is critical in ensuring government is tracking and measuring progress made over time, and for proactively identifying emerging trends.

As the Analyst, you will design and implement evaluation frameworks and outcomes reporting as well as provide necessary data and tracking, including trends and analysis, of homelessness statistics.

Primary Accountabilities

You are the subject matter expertise in relation to various comprehensive, multifaceted research and analysis centered around the Homelessness sector. You have a number a key responsibilities including:

  • Conducting and implementing thorough research and strategic analysis
  • Coordinating the overall research and planning function within the division in research projects; preparation/co-ordination of documentation related to policy planning, business planning and organizational change.
  • Providing policy analysis, advice, and recommendations to senior management and external stakeholders.
  • Developing briefing notes and reports for the Minister and senior management.
  • Furthering linkages and relationships that drive strategy, innovation and best practice within the Department and our partners.
Qualifications and Experience

You have a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in plus seven (7) years related experience with policy, research, and analysis; or a related master\xe2\x80\x99s degree and five (5) years\xe2\x80\x99 experience.

This role is used to inform the department\xe2\x80\x99s strategic policy and program objectives including a new

supportive housing approach, prevention strategy, shelter standards, sector wage standards, etc. As such, this position requires a significant understanding and experience in research methods, both quantitative and qualitative, and the ability to develop performance and system outcome measures, accountability reports and key performance indicators. In addition, you have excellent written and oral communications skills and presentation skills. Your ability to think strategically and coordinate multi-disciplinary teams is essential as you engage in consultation with internal and external stakeholders.

You are known as an innovator who is up-to-date on industry trends and best practices. You are analytical, and must be proficient with Microsoft office suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook (or equivalent). Sound knowledge of government\xe2\x80\x99s business planning process is an asset. An understanding of the challenges, barriers and opportunities facing Nova Scotians experiencing poverty and/or persons experiencing homelessness is an asset,

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Equivalency

An equivalent combination of training, education and experience will be considered. Equivalencies may include:
  • A completed 2-year diploma and nine (9) years of related experience
  • Eleven (11) years experience in the absence of education

Most of your work is spent located in a comfortable office environment. Occasional travel is required throughout the province.

This is a Term opportunity with an anticipated end date of February 28, 2025. The appointment status (\xe2\x80\x98term\xe2\x80\x99, \xe2\x80\x98temporary\xe2\x80\x99 or \xe2\x80\x98casual\xe2\x80\x99) is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.

Salary Range: $2,746.69 - $3,348.16 Bi-Weekly
